I loved that this is a small locally run hotel. Interacting with them, you can tell they really want their guests to have a great experience at their hotel and in Cairns. They are and will continue to do their best for their customers. Thank you Paul, Peter, Preezy (sp?)! And especially big thanks to Big Ben for the casual conversations! I had a wonderful stay, especially with all the activities close by.

The reception were welcoming, efficient and friendly on both my stays. On my first stay, I booked a harbor facing room and by mistake, a city view room on my return stay. on 2nd check-in, I requested to change to harbor facing again and the receptionist searched and worked for over 5 minutes to arrange this, and succeeded. including upgrading me to the top floor, harbor facing. See pic from 8th floor and 12th floor. This is more than I could have expected and so appreciate the extra effort, you don't get at every hotel, the standard answer usually being "Sorry, we'd love to but the hotel is full". Thanks again for a wonderful experience in the fully modern hotel (e.g. including USB sockets if you don't have Australian plugs) etc...

Cairns is lively and very touristy its ok Be prepared to be disappointed Mossman Gorge dont bother very controlled and you are not allowed to really walk they are not happy as it is through an indigenous community You are strongly encouraged to pay $15 to take a bus to the gorge In addition most of the areas visited are conveniently closed to the public for supposed your safety and repairs taking many months Examples Lake Placid Barron Gorge I grew up here came back to visit it is no longer free to walk around your own country The islands such as fitzroy not bad but again very crowded Its worth a look but be prepared to find it too crowded and commercial

Cape Tribulation is an amazing, beautiful place. You can walk along the long, beautiful beach with the ocean on one side and tropical rainforest on the other. When you walk back into the rainforest you are on a boardwalk which takes you through huge mangroves then through the tropical rainforest with a stunning variety of rainforest trees and other plants. You see lots of butterflies as well as birds, goannas and fruit bats. It is a place that fills you with awe.

There’s so much to see and do in and around Atherton, from nature walks and water falls to cafes and strawberry picking to gemstones and geocaching and everything in between. The cooler weather is a welcome escape from the humidity of the coastal areas. Accommodation types are many and varied so there is something to suit every budget. To add to flying fish review -we found it unpalatable. We booked for 5 nights but only stayed 2 due the fact there was no cafe at flying fish point although advertised. Also the staff were unavailable. Key was left with yard man as no one in office. Husband is disabled and it rained entire 2 days and when returning to cabin from car there was no mat inside to wipe feet on therefore floor was wet and hubby slipped over and injured himself so we returned home early. We are on age pensions and was trying to get hubby out of the house and it turned out to be hell.

Yungaburra is a very quaint "old-world" town, great history, centrally located for day-trips to the crater lakes and waterfalls. If you are into platypus spotting, this is the place to be, with well sign-posted walking trails and information along the local river. The town itself had several cafes, a pub and a couple of restaurants. There was a small shopping centre, butcher, etc to cater for food supplies.
