This is our second visit to The Bridge House, so we obviously like it a lot. The accommodations are beautiful, the food excellent, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It is nestled at the base of the woods, so the views and walks are amazing!! Grab a drink, sit outside near the babbling brook and picturesque bridge, as you see Alton Castle above.

I had a wonderful stay! The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. My room was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, with plenty of options to choose from. Not to mention the exceptional restaurant (listed in the Michelin Guide, which speaks for itself) and the beautiful Sunday roast I enjoyed. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Derbyshire!

The layout of city centre can be confusing at first and, with the high rise architecture, can be very windy at times. If you are unsure of whereabouts ask, people are friendly and dont worry about the direct approach they adopt, its Yorkshire. Take a train or bus into the High Peak and the Hope Valley

Wonderful small and quiet town with a great chance of long walks by the river, which is not always possible in other places. Views are always facinating however you look, and places to eat are numerous. It is suitable for a one whole day trip just for Matlock Bath, but for longer if you want to visit other places, as Matlock is a good starting point for may other places around.

On first impressions the staircase to our room was unbelievably dirty. Our room was small with damp around the window. The carpet wasn't clean. The shower door was broken. The toilet holder was rusty. Black mould on the ceiling in the shower room. Outside our door was a loud slamming door. Next to our room a staff room with noisy voices and chairs scrapping on the floor boards. We booked Sunday roast which was average. We mentioned that the cauliflower cheese was bland and flavourless. The owner/manager just laughed it off. The location, age and tradition of the building are without fault. The lady that served breakfast was the most welcoming person we met there. Breakfast was good although some of our crockery wasn't very clean.
