It’s absolutely comfortable, probably one of my best stays in England so far. Staff are friendly and helpful. And the tram stop (St.Peters Square) is just less than a minute walk from the hotel, it’s very convenient to travel from and to the airport.

The breakfast was great, food, staff and dining room was extremely pleasant. I’d been wanting to stay at Shrigley for years and my stay exceeded my expectations. The room with the view overlooking the front was amazing and I particularly enjoyed and appreciated the original features and history of the building it has a real Downton Abbey feel to it. Thank you all 🤗🙏 Regards John Chappell

Love it! Lively and friendly.

Love it! Lively and friendly. Particularly love the vibe on Ecclestone Road and in Walkley and Sharrow Vale. They each have a great range of cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants and independent shops. Lots of lovely green spaces, especially The Botanical Gardens and Endcliffe Park. As if that isn't enough, you are surrounded by The Peak District. You can even walk to the edge of the Peaks from Endcliffe Park, (4ish km).

I have always liked Buxton.

I have always liked Buxton. I love the town centre with its variety of shops and I love the Pavilion Gardens, which are always so beautifully kept. There was a display of veteran cars whilst I was there, and also an auction of cars. Another favourite place of mine is Scriveners Bookshop, where I always find secondhand literary treasure! There are plenty of places to eat - I sampled as many as possible, and enjoyed them all! Buxton people are warm and friendly - I enjoyed a few lovely chats with perfect strangers.

The town is quite small, and there seem to be fish and chip shops on almost every corner! One thing we found really frustrating was that many businesses—including ice cream shops, cafés, and other small shops—only accepted cash. In this day and age, that felt very outdated. We were directed to a cash machine that charged a withdrawal fee, so we decided to skip getting ice cream altogether. It would be great to see more businesses accepting card payments.

The people in town were very friendly.

The people in town were very friendly. In shops and restaurants everyone talked to us. Of note were the Rutland Arms restaurant, as well as the Wheatsheaf Pub. And of course, the Bakewell tart shop. The town is charming. We came to visit Chatsworth House. But given more time we would have also visited Haddon Hall. The riverbank is also beautiful. The murmuration of starlings in the evening was another plus in an already charming town.

Pleasant historic market town on the edge of the Peak District. Some excellent pubs and restaurants in the area although some of my favourites have closed over the past few years. Recommend Ryles Arms and Cock and Pheasant. Excellent area for walking with some beautiful views - White Nancy/Kerridge, Macclesfield Forest and Goyt Valley. Easy access to the Peak District National Park with many places for walking and scenic beauty.

Great beer at The Swiss House - Other places did not have real ales that suited us. Everything is easily accessible and the AC/DC concert at the cave was excellent. There are plenty of pubs there so there will be something suitable for everyone. We ate at the Bulls Head on our first night and the Nags Head on the second. I would say that the meal at The Nags Head was a better portion size and very tasty even though we enjoyed our other meal. Peveril Bakery was excellent and there are plenty of cafes around. The bus station was very useful and fairly busy. Overall a good stay and we may return one day.

We had a long weekend in Ashbourne having visited the area previously. We had planned our visit and knew what we wanted to do. There is plenty to do in the area, and if you want to walk there are no end of hill walks available. The town is very pretty with lots of places to eat and drink. Its a great base for getting out into the surrounding area.

I really liked Barnsley. Went for the football and to explore the real ale pubs. Everyone I met were so friendly. Everything is very close to the transport interchange, albeit there are a few hills to negotiate. Just a shame none of the pubs serving real ale did food.

The apartment is located in a flat area of Stockport, the market is just across the road up a hill. Most pubs and restaurants can be accessed without climbing up the hills or brows as they are called locally. Great selection of eateries on the Underbanks and the Market holds Foodie Friday on the last Friday in the month. Which we were lucky to catch on our trip. Plenty of live music in the bars, particularly The Banshee just across the road from the apartment.
