Although we may not have seen it at its best - the weather was appalling ( wet and windy) sadly, it seemed to be a very run down city. There were so many shops/premises that had shutters and presumably were closed - even on a Saturday! There was some interesting older buildings but lots of newer places which didn't fit the style. I expected more to demonstrate that Sheffield was once the centre of the cutlery industry in the UK.

The house is beautiful and just perfect for a large groups, spacious bedrooms, huge kitchen and lounge area, so many bathrooms. Snug and warm on a dreary January weekend. We all loved the underfloor heating in the kitchen. Town centre and pedestrian high street only a few minutes walk from the front door. Buxton is a wonderful spa town, with plenty to see as well as nearby walks, and 360 views of the Derbyshire Dales. Will definitely be booking again.

On first impressions the staircase to our room was unbelievably dirty. Our room was small with damp around the window. The carpet wasn't clean. The shower door was broken. The toilet holder was rusty. Black mould on the ceiling in the shower room. Outside our door was a loud slamming door. Next to our room a staff room with noisy voices and chairs scrapping on the floor boards. We booked Sunday roast which was average. We mentioned that the cauliflower cheese was bland and flavourless. The owner/manager just laughed it off. The location, age and tradition of the building are without fault. The lady that served breakfast was the most welcoming person we met there. Breakfast was good although some of our crockery wasn't very clean.

A fantastic hotel located in a perfect location within a small town. The facilities and amenities in the hotel are of a high standard and are very enjoyable after a long day, with several areas available to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The staff are amazing, very friendly and welcoming and always have time to stop, speak and just make you feel like a person rather than a number. Finally the food on an evening is superb and definitely value for money. The breakfast is equally as good with good local produce being used and served, which is very much evident. Overall a fantastic second stay at the hotel and I will return next year
