Spacious room with en-suite both of which were well appointed and the room included a fridge. The location and outlook offered good relaxation with easy and quick access to the Lake District. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was buffet with a great choice. In all a very pleasant and relaxing stay.

The hotel is situated right in the centre of Colchester, ideal for visiting the Castle, pubs and shops. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent. Breakfast was really good too. The hotel was spotlessly clean in our room and all public areas.

This is a very well located and comfortable guest house. The décor is well thought out and enjoyable, the rooms are comfortable and nothing is too much trouble for the host. We enjoyed our stay and would go back if we went back to Clacton.

The food at the hotel was excellent, both breakfast and evening meal, with a varied menu. We were most impressed with all the staff who were friendly, and very helpful. A very enjoyable stay.

We were a bit confused as to whether we had to use the automatic (computer) booking-in system or could book in at reception. The reception area is based at the bar and although there are signs to reception we were still uncertain, and I think other people weren't certain either.

Home from home, the location was close to the friends we came to visit. The house was very clean and the beds were very comfortable.We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to visit often.

The kitchen was well equipped, we would have liked access to a toaster for breakfast. Only comment was that the property had no curb appeal, weeds etc, which gave a wrong impression, however once inside the house we were pleasantly surprised and delighted, it met all our expectations.

Some staff could have been more polite. At breakfast it wasn't clear if it was possible to order anything from the menu at anytime. The available choice of cooked breakfast was limited, the same for the continental one. I would have expected more from a Mercure hotel. Unfortunately the soundproofing of the room was really bad. One could hear even little noises from the neighboring rooms and corridor.

Poor quality finish, very bad window (broken glass) and window net. Pictures clearly were edited, are not showing the true condition of the place. Couldn't rich a code lock on front doors, as it's so high. Had to ask tall pedestrians for help to enter the code. Bathroom very old, chipped tiles, old dated shower, nowhere to hang towels. Kitchenette old, interiors of the cupboards vary bad. Sponge for washing up covered in hair.

Needed more cutlery and crockery. It would also have been useful to have at least one large frying pan and a wok. Crockery needs to be in a base unit. Small elderly ladies can’t reach high corner cupboards - especially when they have arthritis! Recommend better quality bed linen and cushions. The twin bed is not comfortable for a single person. Recommend that there are a couple of hooks put up behind the bathroom door to hang night wear and dressing gowns. Also there needs to be a grab rail for older people to get into the bath in order to shower.

AVIOD AVIOD AVIOD. This advert was a complete lie and basically a scam. the place i stayed in is NOT the house advertised atall. it is in the same location but a completely different outdated home. when trying to contact the hosts to ask why they had given me this house and not the one i paid for i was ignored several times. Finally contacted the owner of the home who refused to admit they owned the property even after booking.com confirmed it. after staying your met with an email saying if you rate the property and your stay full stars they will refund your money right away if not youll have to wait up to 14 business days.
