The effort Brian and Lian put into keeping the hotel running was evidence inside out, from the well-prepared room to the thick guidebook full of local tips. The location was ideal, right by the pier and beach. The building has a charming 19th-century feel, complete with a traditional elevator that’s a real throwback. The shower/toilet was sparkling clean (literally spotless, not even a trace of mould), with a good electric shower and even some luxury touches like a bathrobe. Breakfast was fantastic, and we enjoyed all the flowers and vegetables grown on the front steps. The terrace has a great view of the beach. There’s plenty of parking nearby if you're happy to walk about 10 minutes, even during peak season. A very lovely stay overall.

Nada!

Nicely presented flat with tasteful furnishings. In a great location for where I needed to visit on this trip. Within easy reach of both Crouch End and Hornsey centres on foot, and Muswell Hill by an 8-minute bus ride. Also close to (but not next to!) Hornsey Railway Station with links into central London. Situated on a corner site on the 2nd floor, the dual aspect allows glimpses of Alexandra Palace in one direction and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the other.

I personally had difficulty using the key to enter the building, and when turning the shower on. Small areas of the flat had not been finished off well, including the skirting board in the bedroom, which had several sharp nails sticking out of it, and a length of severed wiring hanging loose behind the front door. I found it impossible to reach crockery in the kitchen cupboard, and to reach some of the rods for opening and closing the blinds. None of the dispensers in the bathroom had anything inside. I visited during the second heatwave of the year, but no fan was made available. There was no file provided with information for guests about the flat and its electrical appliances, or the local area. To resolve some issues, I had to buy some coasters, a step-stool, a fan and some hand-soap, and print a copy of the shower's user instructions, all left for future guests!

Good location, good size room, ensuite bathroom and fridge. Very friendly Porters at Newnham who helped us fill up our water bottles during the heatwave. Sparkling water tap and good food at Buttery.

It was not what I had booked and was disappointing from the start

Most of the stay. I had booked to have breakfast for the 3 occupants but was only allowed 2 had to buy the third in the morning although the children stayed free. There were stains on the spare duvets and we had to ask and collect the linen to do ourselves. The breakfast was ok and had a nice selection but was warm at best.
