The staff were friendly and helped when I made my initial complaint regarding the safety and quality of the 1st room i was booked into. They found me an acceptable alternative. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable.

My father stayed here years ago, and it was charming then. The quality of provision has severely degenerated since then. The first (cold) room I was booked into (the annex)was incredibly dark(in the daytime), having one inadequate, energy efficient bulb, with no other room lighting available (on the dark side of the building, under some trees). Located on the ground floor, the window latch was broken, and could not be locked (inadequate for women travelling alone!).The alternative room (on the 1st floor, different building) was moderately better, but the window in the bathroom could not even be closed, due to age, warping, and paint layers. So I had to stop the window with towels to prevent cold air coming in (also unfortunate as the window was located in the shower itself, not fun when bathing)! Then the central heating radiator was for looks only. It too, did not work. Luckily there was a space heater provided (which caused havoc in terms of plug sockets in the evening, when you had to rotate lights, heat, the kettle and charging electrics, as there wasn't enough access points) . Both the rooms looked onto either a building site (put up a fence?!) or rubbish/dumping ground (broken up, unusable wooden picnic tables). It was enormously disappointing! At 5.30am someone thought it was funny to pull the fire alarm, causing an evacuation (with NO COMMUNICATIONS from staff). We stood around a while waiting for any direction or support forthcoming from staff, and there was none! You might believe that this (a false fire alarm) is something that is beyond the hotel's control, but when a place is so degraded, and there's an air of disrespect all around, you will attract what you project. If you don't care about your product, others won't respect or care either? I will not bother returning, as there's a real lack of customer care here!

The view from the window seat in our room was fantastic. The breakfast delivered to our room each morning was a lovely touch. Wouldn't hesitate to book again if we are in the area.

No conditioner in bedroom. Noise. Breakfast was poor value for money - I’ve had much better breakfasts at less expensive hotels. Tea was lukewarm. No fruit provided in room (do-called super deluxe) or breakfast. Etc etc.
