It ticked the main requirements of good sized room, comfortable bed, good shower and bathroom facilities, very good breakfast, good evening meals, welcoming staff. Nice facilities in room for tea and coffee making, with daily replenished little treats and bottled waters. Accommodation in all comfortable and well positioned within most sightseeing venues. The Woodside is positioned on a reasonably busy road side,so some traffic noise is evident, but doesn’t really detract from the good points. The quality of the food produce was first class, supplied by a local farm store, the bacon, sausages, black pudding were some of the best I have sampled.

During our stay the room was remade every day and items replenished apart from our penultimate day, for some strange reason, we were missed. But having brought the matter to the staffs noticed we were straight away given fresh towels, replacement drink items etc for our room. Which was Ok, but to be honest it shouldn’t happen if the management kept their eye on the ball. Another minor thing was we pointed out on our arrival that one of the biggest curtain had unhooked on its main leader ring, which hampered its hanging correctly. This during our stay wasn’t corrected. The house keeping whilst daily visits did miss other small things like ensuring the wash basin was wiped, cushions at times were left on the floor, or back onto the bed dependant on which maid did the room, maybe carpet not hoovered as often as it could of been…… I have to point out these things were something we overlooked as we are easy going, but it is the reason I slightly marked down our top end scores…. If these matters are addressed then it would be 10/10 throughout, without a doubt, as these small things make the difference between good and excellent…..

It was a cute apartment on a pretty busy street with a lovely view of the Kilvey Hills. I loved the cooking pots, gas stove, the big fridge and the skylight on the top floor. Heating in bathroom and shower pressure was fantastic. It was good to see that a sponge, dishwashing liquid, kitchen cloths, vaccum, ironing board, iron, dustpan and clothes grill were provided but there was no mop to clean or cupboard to hang clothes. Bus-stop was literally a min walk away and right opposite was a small convenience store Cocktails Off Licence and a halal kabab place Chicken On The Road, Kumar Stores is 5-6 mins walk.

It didn't have a washing machine though Bookings.com was showing it. There were many cobwebs on the skylight and in the apartment in general which I removed with the vaccum. Outside metal staircase to the apartment door was quite slippery and it was really dark in the night. The outside area was pretty much neglected. Bathroom washbasin was tiny and had a leakage which was fixed immediately after I complained. I requested Host multiple times to provide me with an extra linen and comforter before my arrival for my son to sleep on the sofa-bed, but it was given to me the next day. Downstairs heater was not efficient and it would get really cold even after cranking up the heating. No mirror in the bathroom!

Even though the decor in the room was simple and as one would expect in a 3 star hotel everything work exactly as one would like with layout of everthing sensibly done - this is something that i cant always say about higher star hotels so thanks for that

Again i dont expect a 5 star breakfast in a 3 star hotel and so I try to judge it fairly and appropriatly. Every thing that was setved was fine but more choice of fruit and additions for cerials like museli etc desirable. Fine for a short stay but I think not enough variety if I was staying longer. I felt price was high for a 3 star but then all prices in York were higher thsn I was expecting

Dinner was good. Amanda on staff was amazing. She picked us up from our hike, checked us in and was actually working the bar later. She was so pleasant and made us feel welcome.

Rooms may be a bit dated. However if it’s not broke why fix it. The staff, the comfort and location made up for this I had everything I needed for a pleasant stay

It was a very cool historic place. Walking distance to the train station and just outside the Micklegate to old town York.
