The staff were all clean , capable and friendly . We were really pleased with the room but we should stayed in a room with a king size bed not the double ...our fault . The plumbing work from adjoining rooms was really , it disturb our sleep and I even thought of asking for another room . We both slept better the 2nd night. We had evening meal the 1st night and the food was excellent 👌. Was pleased to see that it was proper coffee at breakfast. English breakfast had good bacon and black pudding and butchers sausage , fresh mushrooms and tomatoes and a perfectly poached egg . The bread wasn't nice bread thought ...shame that .

This is a very small property managed by the host who is friendly and helpful. We had the 'superior' room and it was superlative! There is a small lounge and a roof terrace (but requires a bit of agility to access). The WiFi was consistently reliable. Breakfast was very good. The property is within the historic part of Rye, but has very good access to public transport being a short walk from the bus & train station.

There were only roof-lights in the room and no apparent way of increasing the ventilation - but that's a very minor niggle.

The building and grounds are superb one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The quality of food in the restaurant for the evening meal and breakfast were excellent.

The shower/toilet in our room did not have a door. It is not just a matter of having some privacy when needed, but also if you get up in the night not having a door you can close means you will wake up your partner when turning on the light. The lighting in the shower/ toilet was inadequate for a man shaving. Need a light above/around the mirror. The service during the evening meal was a bit chaotic. Instead of having one person covering a group of tables we were served by a variety of people. Had to wait for twenty minutes for the bill, and then had to ask for it three times. When I received the bill it was incorrect. They undercharged us, so the bill had to be amended. The staff were friendly and helpful they just seemed inexperienced and badly organised.

I was given a room at the back which had no window in it only a glass door. I said this was not acceptable and they willingly changed it

food on the night i was there was only pizza. Disappointing because one of the reasons for booking was the menu on website. Pub ought to make it clear before booking that on a Thursday it was pizza only. The pizza was nice but not what I would have choosen
