The lady who greeted us at reception when we arrived late afternoon on Monday 20th May and checked us in was exceptional. She was of great assistance as to where we could park our car as my father travelled with a mobility scooter. Unfortunately, I do not have her name. Both rooms were comfortable and clean with everything we needed. When we entered the bar/restaurant area, it was Johnny who served our drinks. He was friendly, efficient, and helpful. When there was an issue with my friend's meal, he dealt with it professionally and without fuss. The food was lovely and I had the same meal again the following night we were there. I would say that Johnny and the lady at reception were the two most outstanding members of staff that we had dealings with during our two night stay. Other members of staff in the restaurant seemed not as friendly but accomodating enough.

Our superior twin room had a problem with the shower controls. The shower control to turn on was backwards and loose (it came off in my hsnd), which made it difficult to work out initially. We reported it to reception after our first night. We were room 224. This should have been checked before we arrived to make sure it was in good working order. I did let Johnny know that my friend's burger was cold on our first night. This was immediately replaced and resolved very quickly with a free round of drinks by Johnny. Also, we discovered that the area was full of homeless and hooded and masked youngsters and full of security guards when my friend and I popped to Sainsbury's. It made us feel unsafe, so we remained in the hotel both evenings of our stay. In saying that, the hotel more than made up for this as we enjoyed the cocktails, wine, and the delicious food. I would give our stay 8 out of 10.

Really nice village location by the river and large beer garden. A very friendly and efficient welcome, great pub food and well kept beer. Simple clean room with spotless bathroom. Breakfast was extra but considering the room price that was fair enough; generous, well cooked brekkie.

I had been in contact with staff as I was arriving lunchtime before going to a wedding and nothing was too much trouble. Single room was lovely and window overlooked the Main Street, traffic wasn’t noisy.

We loved staying at the Sofitel, our second time before flying from Gatwick. The beds are very comfortable and the staff are very attentive. We enjoyed eating in Vanda and drinks in the bar.

The photos are very accurate, the value for money was the best compared to all my other bookings in this city (10 so far) and the host was very helpful and very quick to respond.

I have nothing bad to say about it. Maybe just that the place is not close to the center, but it is closer to Anfield and that makes up for it.

Food was plentiful and ok. Room was a decent size and reasonably comfortable. View from the front of the hotel is great. Most of the staff were pleasant and helpful.

The reason for my low score was the attitude of the restaurant management. You are allocated a table and are expected to eat all your meals there whether you like it or not. The reason (excuse) given was they ensure that the customers are evenly spread between the servers. This may almost be a reasonable excuse at dinner time when they have to clear tables take orders and bring food, but it really is not reasonable at breakfast when they only have to clear. But here is some customer service advice: The paying customer is always right. It is the staff responsibility to try to satisfy the customer. Fair distribution of customers to servers can be achieved by allocating staff to customers NOT customers to staff. We were told off for breakfasting in daylight twice (our allotted table was in a dark corner) and asked not to come back to the hotel! But don’t worry Martin, we wouldn’t return anyway after that treatment.

Self-service was good. Bed was ok, with a top sheet, which is unusual enough to be surprisingly good for something so simple.

No real shower - just a hand-held shower in a bath. The room was noisy, and the window didn't close properly, so I needed earplugs to get to sleep.

Having booked the woodland pod on a number of occasions over the last four or five years the only cherry on top would be the presence of the heat and ambience of a functional fireplace in the main lobby.. That would make the stay when relaxing with my partner..

We booked months in advance and were told that we couldn't book parking but that it was available on a first come first served basis. We arrived early enough to get a parking spot and when we checked in we were told a conference group had already BOOKED the entire parking area. The people before us at the check-in were as angry as we were and the staff were rude and unhelpful. I would not recommend these hotel, in fact I would avoid it! On top of that, the hotel was very dated, filthy and the TV was the size of my computer. Breakfast was basic and the worst that we had in a 30 day trip around the UK. Awful place
