We had a lovely room (209) with a fab view of the castle. The room was clean and tidy with coffee tray, biscuits & water. The bathroom was small but had a nice shower (in the bath) and complimentary toiletries . We dined in the restaurant on the first night. The menu was extensive and the meal was lovely We had two coffees and I two cakes for £9 during the day at the hotel coffee house which was enjoyed sat outside in the beer garden area Breakfast was delicious. Car parking was on site. Staff were very helpful, polite, friendly and chatty. Would stay again

I do have to say that although the hotel restaurant meal was delicious the minuscule piece of cheesecake for £7.95 was not acceptable. We had two coffees and I two cakes for £9 during the day at the hotel coffee house so can’t understand why the hotel would serve such a poor dessert?

The Flower Pot is a lovely pub with a music venue. The rooms are upstairs and have their own entrance. The room was clean with a comfy bed, chairs & coffee table, tea/coffee facilities, good shower. Staff were lovely. There is a communal kitchen with bread, milk, croissants, cereal etc for breakfast (although we ate out).

Rooms are very comfortable with firm beds and a nice ensuite shower room and toilet. Breakfast is a help yourself buffet with a great selection and very good quality.

Reception. Elysia was very helpful and polite. Easily the best staff member there.

TV didn’t work. Shower was coming away from wall. No staff to be found in bar in evening for nearly 10 mins. Sticky tables. Poor food quality. Soggy chips, soggy pie. Two waitresses need training. After complaint to chef about food he removed cost of one meal. Waitresses were not to be seen again. No offer of dessert menu, or coffee. In fact no further contact so we upped and left. Went to reception to be told we hadn’t paid for dinner. No intention of not paying! Old adage, “if you want attention, get up and leave” Very poor service in restaurant. Breakfast also poor. ‘Yorkshire’ breakfast. Whole plate of food was awful. Bacon, eggs and baked beans looked and tasted like they had been under heat lamp for too long. Pleasant waitress. Even the toast after it been in the toaster was very chewy and not pleasant to eat. All in all a very disappointing experience.

We were originally put in a room where the window was boarded up, but when we told reception - they didn’t know - we were moved to a superior room. Both rooms had nowhere to hang your towels in the bathroom - just a couple of hooks on the bathroom door would make all the difference and the first room, which had plenty of space but nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. Toilet bags and toiletries had to be put on the floor. The second room was a bit better as there was some shelving behind the sink and under it.

Location is excellent.

Oven was filthy. Sofa seats 2-3 people at a push with only uncomfortable chairs for the rest of our party. Need to let people know the amount of stairs. Not suitable for small children. Midges in bedding.
