Gorgeous old place with lots of character only a few mins walk from York Minster and 100m outside the city gate tower. Welcoming helpful staff with a yummy hot breakfast and a clean spacious room. Parking around York can be tricky but we were able to use one of two parking spots available for a small fee.

Busy traffic & finding parking until we could speak to the staff inside was the only issue but they sorted it out quickly for us.

We decided not to have the breakfast in the end. The location was fine, I thought it was in a village so was a bit disappointed it was on a busy road with nothing much nearby, but that’s down to me for not researching properly.

The bathroom needed a bin with a lid on it, I had to take my rubbish home as it couldn’t be left in the open bin in the lounge.

Friendly service, delicious food. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and we had a rolling hillside view. Buster, our dog, was warmly welcomed in most areas of the inn.

The location worked really well for me and the lady serving breakfast had great interpersonal skills and service skills.

The room was tired and unclean. I had made them aware in advance of my stay that I needed gluten free breakfast but it was a surprise to everyone on the morning and they had to go to the shops to obtain breakfast for me. Very poor internet access which even when obtained drops in and out constantly. Staff seem irritated by managing this situation.

I was told I would be upgraded to a standard single room. Whilst this was perfectly adequate it was difficult to understand from what it could have been upgraded. Parking was inadequate and I had to park in the street for £12
