Positive section of review
Excellent location, with a smashing canal walk right behind the hotel. And across the road there's a farm with llamas and ostriches. The restaurant is top notch, so the breakfast was excellent. And started at a good time too (from 7.30am, which we working people need). My room (No 1) wasn't big, and was right above the bar, but the TV had working iPlayer, which I took advantage of.

Sound from the bar, which include music which reverberated through my room and revellers leaving the place quite chattily, went on till nearly midnight. When that's finished, there's some odd sounds from the ostrich and llama farm (but those are a bonus in my book), then the nearby M6 - only about 200 yards away - kicks in quite early. But if you don't mind that sort of thing, it's a smashing old place nicely done up.

The location was fabulous, the hotel communal areas were very nicely presented. The staff were so lovely and friendly (Janette and Ryan were lovely on reception) , they couldn't do enough for us. The food was very good. We upgraded our room to the Eddleston suite which was fabulous, just idyllic.

The original room we had was a bit small, shabby and dated but more importantly was next to the lift so we asked to upgrade. The suite had no bottled water which was a bit odd. We were told to buy it from the bar (the suite upgrade wasn't cheap so bottled water would have been nice included). We were woke at 5.30 by the milkman delivering, and then the laundry van shortly after. Our suite was the front of the hotel and we had to shut the windows as people were outside talking and smoking before 7am which wasn't ideal, the smell was wafting into our room. As lovely as the staff were and the hotel was, it was a shame. The hotel, in places was also in need of some tlc.

Firstly we where great with a warm welcome by Brian, In fact before we went to our room I asked Brian for nearest chemist as my partner need a prescription urgently and the directions he gave were spot on. This my seem a silly comment but it put us at ease.

Location for theatres is excellent, also good range of restaurants within short walking distance but no pub close by when we stayed

Would have liked the shower to have a hand-held option and a rail to grab when climbing in and out of the bath.Air con would be great but we used the fan to cool the room.
