All was excellent, as normal. This is our third visit, and this time we brought family with us. Room clean and tidy, courtyard garden kept immaculate, and hosed down every evening. Great choice breakfast available, and coffee and cake to die for!! If your a Jeremy Clarkson fan, good location to visit Diddly Squat Farm Shop, (20 mins drive) or the Farmers Dog (5 mins drive)

We had a long drive south from Scotland and decided to interrupt our journey and stay at the String of Horses. The hotel has an old fashioned, cosy atmosphere. We had an excellent dinner in the hotel restaurant. Staff all super friendly and competent. Choice of breakfast also good.

The bathroom is very modern but there is no shelf or basket in the shower to hold toiletries. The only place to put them was on the floor.

It’s uniqueness. Colourful furnishings and artwork mixed with traditional furniture. Comfortable sofas and bed, lovely bathroom with a good shower and everything we needed in the kitchen including welcoming little goodies.

Personally location is excellent for my work & if you are visiting Edinburgh or the Borders. Staff in the restaurant excellent. Room clean & comfortable. Breakfast excellent staff excellent!

I stayed for work, on departure at reception my bill was double the price booked. After the receptionist corrected this I requested a receipt by email, she said she could not do this at that moment so I left a business card for her to forward an email receipt when possible. (required to claim back my expenses back from the contractor I work for). This never happened so I contacted them again & unfortunately I have never received anything. I don't know if they unable to do it or just cant be bothered, so unfortunately I am out of pocket & I wont stay there again because of a simple electronic receipt!

The garden needs some attention, there were bin bags and rubbish left in a corner plus an old appliance and bbq, it is very overgrown. The dining room table could would benefit from having more chairs, the property sleeps 6 but there are only 4 chairs (and 4 dinner plates/bowls). There was no kitchen towel or roll which would have been useful to have. Wi fi wasn’t working when we arrived but it was quickly resolved by the host. Check out time was wrong on the website and confirmation emails which resulted in the host ringing to ask what time we plan to leave (looks like it has now been updated)

The ironing board was broken and the iron spat water out everywhere. Nowhere to hang towels except over a wet shower. Very expensive bar and restaurant. No free airport shuttle and had to pay to use umbrellas. Basic amenities, aircon didn’t work and we needed to call downstairs for them to switch it on through a mains. Staff were polite but felt that they would only do the very basics and not go out of their way to make you feel welcomed.
