The Castle Hotel is a very dog friendly pub with rooms and the facilities are a little limited. Our room while comfortable and very clean was quite small but had the benefit of an en-suite walk in shower. The atmosphere is very casual and informal and the staff were lovely. The hotel revolves around the bar which is very popular with locals and visitors and can be quite lively. The menu, at least while we were there, was a little restricted and tended to lean towards the vegetarian and does not seem to change very often. There is a specials board. The food was very well cooked and presented. Again the breakfast menu is a not the typical all in Scottish but is generous and plentiful. Portmohomach is a quiet seaside village with a lovely sandy beach and we enjoyed beautiful weather. There is plenty to do in the area, lots of walks, dolphin viewing etc etc. An excellent little place for a weekend.

As a devout carnivore I was disappointed that there was no steak on the menu.

The location of Hallagenna cottages is perfectly located within the moorlands offering beautiful scenery in all directions. Upon arrival, the owners (Mick and Janine) were very friendly and welcoming. The cottage was very clean and well presented. The cottage was full of natural light with well positioned windows in each room and roof pivot windows in the kitchen and bathroom. The cottage contained a washing machine, microwave, iron, fridge and freezer. And for those chily evenings radiators in each room. My whole experience from the first minute to the last was relaxing and very peaceful.

There was only one thing about my stay which I didn't like and that was having to leave!

The only thing I thought would improve the garden, is to have a small fence/trellis to screen you off from the neighbour, just where the dining area is, as only a tiny partition wall , and both sides can see each other, as while you are outside having a drink or eating at the picnic bench, there is no privacy, and we avoided it after 1st night as no privacy.

Comfortable room. Breakfast was good

The door at the bottom of the stairs leading to the rooms banged constantly day and night. This was very annoying. It just needs a soft close hinge on it. Tv too small
