I recently enjoyed a wonderful staycation at Wivenhoe House and were thoroughly impressed. The location was perfect - easy to find and inside the University of Essex, where I need to visit. The house itself is stunning, with a mix of traditional charm and modern touches. My room was spacious and luxurious, with a very comfortable bed and a gorgeous bathroom. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making me feel welcome and relaxed throughout our stay. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast at the Brasserie restaurant - delicious meals with excellent service. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Wivenhoe House and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing and enjoyable getaway. I will definitely be back!

The bus from and to train station is not often and I am not sure about the availability at night. Probably provide a transport to and from train station?

The staff were outstanding....so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was included and was lovely. We had evening meal in the restaurant and hubby said best pork chop he'd had! There was ample free parking. We chose the deluxe double room and it was enormous. It had quality furnishings and carpet. Plenty of hanging space and drawers too. Really clean and a good shower, which is so important.

Although the double bed was huge, it wasn't the most comfortable. There were two windows, and although both had thick curtains, only one had a blackout blind so it was a bit bright from the other in the morning.

Rooms were clean, a good size and bathroom newly furnished! We had a lovely view from our room too! Breakfast was good & there was plenty of choice! We timed it right and sat down immediately, when we left there was a huge queue! Staff were very helpful and informative!

Small narrow corridors and steep stairs! Didn’t affect us but people with mobility issues would find it difficult!

Great room in perfect location. Very clean and so happy to be able to bring our dog to stay! Bed wasn’t the comfiest but that is just being picky. Loved the added amenities of kettle with tea/coffee, fan, and smart TV with Netflix.

Only criticism we have is that we couldn’t check in until 4pm and then checkout was 10am! When only staying for one night this seems very early to have to check out.. even an extra hour would have made our experience a lot more relaxing.. early to be out of room when weather not great and lots of the shops etc weren’t open yet. If we were to stay again would request later checkout if possible.

We had a 'Bay View' room, but the window looking over the Bay was 'sprung', so there was just condensation and we couldn't see anything. Frankly this was very disappointing as we had paid for a Bay View room but didn't get a proper view. I wish I had pointed this out when we checked out as I feel we should have had some money back as a result. Also, there were no proper lights in the room, so we couldn't read in bed. Also, why do English hotels insist on double quilts? These are unheard of on the continent - people have their own quilts - for goodness sake Harbour View catch up with the times!

The room was small. Our double bed was also too small so this did affect the quality of our sleep. If we had foresight of this we would have tried to upgrade our room.
