  We stayed at the Old Black Lion for 2 nights. It is perfectly located for exploring Hay-on-Wye, very centrally located for visiting any of the attractions, bars or restaurants - and with immediate access to some beautiful nature walks. Despite its central location, we did not experience any issues with noise, which was great. Staff was very friendly; rooms cosy, clean and with nice views; and we enjoyed the breakfast.

  Breakfast finished early, which feels like a bit of a shame if you want to have a bit of a lie-in on holiday.

  Great location nice view of the marina from the balcony. A comfortable bed and most of what you need provided, the living room was comfy. Off road and sheltered parking really appreciated when it was raining, when packing up. Pint of milk was a nice touch. I wish we had stayed longer.

  Friendly, professional staff. Room clean and very comfortable. Location and parking excellent as a base to visit the local shops and attractions and right in the town centre. Ours was a last minute booking so we were happy to get something so nice rather than having to make do.

  Electric blinds and comfy bed. I don't sleep well when away from home but I slept really well and the electric Verlux blind made the room completely dark so I didn't get woken at sunrise.

  Nice location. Lovely outside area. Nice size room which was pleasant. Lovely party venue room and food provided. Friendly hotel staff.

  No toilet roll in room on arrival (had to ask twice but did then get some), bathroom needs a bit of tlc, tap had a fault and soaked you everytime it was used & the floor (did report on departure), family room was paid for, yet they only provided mugs for two people for drinks but there was plenty of tea, coffee etc out. Beds not very comfy, could feel the springs on two out of the three.
