We had a nice one night stay at the Ancient Unicorn. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and clean and in an interesting old building in the courtyard.

The parking was a little tricky on the night we stayed they were fully booked and there weren't clearly defined bays so it was a little ad hoc but we did get a space. There was also on street parking available.

Staff were really helpful and friendly, allowed us to use facilities and pool whilst waiting for room to be ready. Excellent location

Was a good stop over on the way to the Harwich Ferry with the kids. Breakfast was easy and hassle free and the room was a good size

The only redeeming factors are the location and the staff at reception were friendly.

Disappointing! Considering it's in a similar price range to the NED, the quality just wasn't there. The room was pretty unimpressive, rundown, dusty, not the cleanest. The towels were stiff and smelt damp - the kind of towels you'd expect in a premiere inn not Nobu. There was zero wow factor or attention to detail - zero complimentary things apart from coffee/tea (even less expensive hotels at least give you a wash bag), told them it was my partners birthday and there was zero acknowledgement of that (yet Dishoom brought him a gorgeous stack of free birthday pancakes - highly recommend them for breakfast!). The shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold. The mini bar snacks ridiculously expensive (we had a pack of crisps that were disgusting and they cost £5). Room was too hot & stuffy to get a decent nights sleep. They don't even have a smart TV so no Netflix only your standard channels which, again, is pretty shocking for a hotel of this price. Just really bog-standard to be honest, the kind of stay you'd expect from a much cheaper hotel and 100% not worth the price. Wish I'd listened to the other reviews that said this!

Breakfast was excellent, huge plate of lovely food. Evening meal was very good too.

The form we printed off from Booking.com showed that car parking wasnt available so we ended up paying £10 in the car park across the road. When we mentioned this to the proprietor he said that he would have given us a voucher for free parking in the car park. He went on to say that he's contacted Booking.com many times to explain that free parking is available but nothing has been done. We therefore suggest that you amend your records to show that free parking is available. We would also appreciate a refund for the money we wasted if that is possible.
