The only way to leave a review is to first make a booking. That's how we know our reviews come from real guests who have stayed at the property.

When guests stay at the property they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff are and more.

After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.

I had expected to be occupying a single room but to my pleasant surprise found the accommodation included a quite separate parlour room, which came with a sofa, armchairs and a writing table. Like the bedroom it had a large flat HD television of exceptional quality. The bathroom meanwhile was spacious and included a decent sized shower. The WC was not part of the bathroom but a room apart, which is how it should be and for that reason was to my liking. The bathrobes provided were luxurious, to say the least.

As I am vegetarian I would have appreciated a little more on offer such as veggie sausages but I made do with the mushrooms, tomatoes and hash browns. Because I didn't know if the eggs were free range they were off the menu for me, unfortunately. No issues otherwise.

Worth asking about the museum tour- you get a reduced price if you are a hotel guest. The hotel building is stunning and has retained a lot of the original features. Great selection of food for breakfast and we appreciated the free minibar in the room. So cosy and comfortable, and the bathroom was extremely clean with lovely toiletries and a freestanding bath- which is not a detail you see very often! Oh, and how can I forget the complimentary box of chocolates welcoming us to the room!

We didn’t eat in the restaurant for dinner because it was too expensive. The choices of places to eat around Bodmin of an evening were limited (which I appreciate is not the fault or responsibility of the hotel), however we walked to find a family pub close by.

Food quality is excellent, albeit dinner being north of £50/head, to be expected that close to London, breakfast was decent.

Room had a sewerage/drain odour, slept with the door open and on its security chain. Not ideal. Gaining access to the building itself is trick as a guest as the accommodation is on the outside of the building - means one has to make a phone call to have an external door opened.

Unfortunately the room didn't have a window, right next to the lift motor room and the toilet made a grinding noise every hour or so..

Staff messed up our room 4 times and we had to keep going up and down up and down back to reception for them to finally realise they were trying to give us a room someone was already booked into.
