We booked this apartment because it was close to a wedding venue that we were going to & it certainly was within walking distance. They provided a good selection of teas and coffee and UHT milk if you hadn’t bought any. There was also ice creams in the freezer which was either provided or it from previous occupants, but this was a really nice touch. The table was laid out, so we didn’t have to look in all the cupboards to find crockery. There was a nice selection of saucepans if you wanted to do cooking and the oven and microwave worked well. The bed had really lovely clean sheets and were very comfortable. Washing up liquid, sponge etc was also there to use. The beds were made with up with quality clean sheets, lovely big fluffy towels were left for us to use. The beds were very comfortable. The parking was good opposite the entrance to the apartments.

The access to the property was around the back what seems like a fire escape, along narrow corridors, down steps almost banging your head. Then into a dark entrance because the light in that area didn’t work. The kitchen was not that clean, tops looked clean but not. Cupboards inside and out were grubby. The lighting in the kitchen and in the bathroom was awful, certainly not enough. Either a mirror in the bathroom would’ve helped or lights under the kitchen cabinets because you seem to be constantly in your own shadow! There wasn’t really enough lounge seating because at a push three of you sat on a sofa otherwise someone had to stand. There wasn’t enough crockery because as soon as you finished, you had to quickly wash up for the next cup of tea!

Well situated overlooking the river. We stayed in the Crows Nest, a suite at the top of the building. The room was beautifully appointed & very comfortable with 2 lovely little glass fronted balconies for taking in the spectacular views. The owners were very friendly & accommodating. The breakfast was superb.

Breakfast was very good served in a very nice dining room. The bedroom room was fine for a short stay. If we were to stay again for longer we would ask for one of their larger rooms .The location was perfect for all that we wanted to do.

It was unfortunate that the hotel wasn't able to offer evening meals due to staff shortages. As it was a Bank Holiday weekend the alternatives in Beer were very busy.

The location was good. The breakfast was excellent. Very friendly and efficient staff in the breakfast room. My room was adequate for a solo traveller and the bed linen was clean.

For a 4star hotel there were a number of things which reflected quite badly. Firstly I had to ask for the shower tray to be cleaned. This request wasn't received well. No apology just a rather begrudging response of "I'll have to get Mike to see to it" as if there weren't any housekeeping staff available. The towels, not the usual white ones found in a 4star establishment, were a fawn colour and had a couple of bleach marks on them. The only toiletries was a tiny guest soap. There were no decaffeinated tea or coffee sachets and no hot chocolate. All very sparse. While I realise budget hotels such as Travelodge and Premier Inn have more money to spend than family-run places, it doesn't alter the fact that 4 star means more than the very basic.

Hotel was very nice, everything was spotless and the room was very comfortable. Breakfast was a solid 9/10

Small problem when checking in, we had to queue for about 45 minutes (which is a new one for me), I'm guessing it was because it was bank holiday weekend. After that though everything was spot on.

There was a coffee pod machine in the room but no coffee pods. There was no kettle to make tea, although tea bags were provided. Were we meant to make tea in the coffee pod machine?

Location for the stadium and shopping centre
Negative section of review
Prices for eating and drinking were very high and also the overall cost of the hotel was greatly inflated due to the football being on.
