We live on the south coast and were attending a large family reunion in Bishop's Stortford so Spring Paddocks was the ideal location. We needed to stay for two nights and did not want to stop in a large hotel chain. They are alright but we wanted somewhere peaceful to unwind and take it easy as we are both in our 70s. Spring Paddocks was perfect being set in the Essex countryside. The host was lovely and provided everything we needed. The accomodation was equipped with a kitchen with ample foodstuff for a quick continental breakfast. One thing we really appreciated is having fresh milk instead of the awful long-life stuff supplied in a lot of places. Highly recommended and we will certainly return there if the need arises.

We couldn't access the property. Do not book this. The phone number for the owner does not exist if you try to call it.

Booking.com treated us really badly. .They kept trying to take us back through the same hoops already completed. Then they claimed they couldn't hear me on two consecutive calls. Strange that they could hear my daughter when she called from the same place, on the same network with strong signal. Then she mentioned reporting them to trading standards. Suddenly they were cooperative.

Cleanliness of breakfast room could be better there were some food stains on the wall by the side of the table. The tables were not cleaned properly several of the table's had old milk stains on the edges and chairs had crumbs on from wiping the table tops..

They eventually found us a room with a window that one could open.

In the end, they made it right, and we applaud and are grateful to the hotel staff for their great service. This property doesn't have AC, which is fine, but just make it clear you want a room with a window that can Actually Open. I have never in all our travels encountered a hotel room where you couldn't open the windows, at least a crack. I didn't even know that was something one had to 'special request' at a hotel. We had a our dog with us and the first room was already too warm for him (and us) within 5 minutes, and no way to cool it down. After waiting about 2 hours staff was able to provide us with another room, which was great service. There was also alot of construction all around the hotel, which isn't the hotel's fault, but they should have sent an email or message with clear instructions of how to get to the hotel. We spent 15 minutes driving around the massive construction site trying to figure out the one route in. The pre-recorder directions when calling the hotel are nearly indecipherable and incredibly fast.

Not too clean, poor en suite bathroom, very dated throughout - it needs a complete overhaul and a lot of money spending on it. With much TLC it could be top notch. I can’t understand why a pump was banging away in a cupboard off the main bedroom all night…not conducive to a good night’s sleep. We’ve had some fabulous holiday lets in other areas in the past, sadly this one did not match their standards.
