Positive section of review
This is a newly listed set of rental apartments that are well located and were good value. They are functional and modern, albeit a bit basic. We would recommend them but just be mindful that Flat C is on the top floor and has a private bathroom but it is out on the landing area, and doesn't feel that private because other guests (which did happen) can just walk up the stairs and could just go into the bathroom.

When we arrived the the apartment it had not been cleaned from the previous guests. Used Bedlinen was on the sofa and the floor and used dirty towels were left all over in both of the rooms. This tainted our first impression of the place. This was not nice to have to deal with. However we quickly cleaned up and washed the towels, cleared up the bits of litter and tidied the bathroom. Once that was done it began to feel like a nice little space to stay. We decided to extend our stay as it was good value, However on day 3 we experienced another issue. On Monday evening on 3 separate occasions complete strangers (who were other new residents I guess) walked up the stairs and just walked into the flat we were in (Flat C). This made us jump and as they didn't knock it also was a shock. I think this was a genuine mistake by other residents trying to find their room. (but one out of the 3 occasions happened just after Midnight when a man carrying beer just opened the door as we were sat on our laptops and this made my partner and I both jump. It was genuine mistake of rooms by new guests but because none of the doors are labelled at all (to Flats AB and C) it means that first time guests are getting confused. If an additional lockable basic door could be placed at the bottom of the final set of stairs that lead up to flat C then it would make it feel less exposed especially as the bathroom for us is out on the landing (unlike the other flat where theirs are contained inside their apartments). I also was disappointed to get a message from the host saying other residents had said we were making too much noise. This was a bit jarring as actually being on the top floor we can't help that everytime we move they probably hear us. In summary all of the issues we encountered can be easily fixed by the host. If they fix them, they could get a 7.5/10 score as opposed to the 5.5 /10 that we gave them.

The door operates on a keypad, and the code was provided in advance of our arrival It was very easy to access the property. There was carparking provided right at the front door and the location was excellent. It was only a short walk to the old city, and everything was within walking distance.

Beautiful place and location. Scott and Andrew where very welcoming and friendly, they made you feel like you where part of the family. Would highly recommend The Retreat Hotel. We will definitely be coming back to stay.

Beautiful building, very grand. Lots of character, room was a good size and spacious, can’t fault the amenities. Lots of facilities with the swimming pool, spa, games room and various lounges and conservatories.

The finishing in the rooms and around the building was a little bit tatty. Scuffs, knocks, terrible siliconing around the bathroom, all split and discoloured.
