We liked the fitness centre and found the pool lovely - warm and inviting. We liked the elegance and decor of the hotel and the very helpful staff. We had a wonderful view of York Minster and garden area from our bedroom window and this was fantastic!

We felt the quality of the breakfast was only modest - the poor, thin sliced bread was awful and for a hotel of this calibre should have offered 'real' bread to be cut as wished and a choice of these artisan breads too. There was only one type of yogurt on offer and no porridge or fish on the menu. The fried eggs were leathery on some days. At times we were seated at a table near the food serving area but could feel vibrations from the cabinets during the time we were eating which was not pleasant. Presumably this was generated by the heaters to keep the food warm? The shower in our room was faulty and the 'drencher' and hand set could not be isolated from each other and we knew how it should work correctly! The bed was rather lumpy too. On check out, we did report the problems to reception.

Beautiful place, lovely grounds, the breakfast was nice and the room was spacious with a super king comfortable bed. The dog was made welcome but above all the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a lovely stay and would definitely come back

Excellent food, clean and comfortable room, very homely setting. The staff were friendly and efficient. The setting is beautiful and we particularly found the printed walk instructions extremely useful

If I had to suggest something it would be for a greater choice of some foods, I have lactose intolerance and could only choose from 2 items for the main meal. I realise it may be unrealistic to cater for every intolerance/allergy/preference and the food I did have was excellent, I have no complaints
