Bed comfortable - especially if you like your beds soft; shower good and hot, proper big bottles of soap provided (not those mini sample size sachets you get in other places); wifi reliable (at least, phones had no problem connecting, even though computer said no). Towels changed daily. 5-10 minute walk to city centre.

To be fair, at the time of booking, the Ibis Budget was the cheapest of all the city centre hotel options in Cardiff for the desired days (there must be a demand/supply influence on hotel pricing) but still, £140 per night for a room with all the ambiance of a prison cell with few services provided is not exactly my definition of a budget price. Never visited an Ibis Budget before, instead of a bathroom you just get shower and toilet cubicles opening directly into the room itself (which, while this has some advantages, lacks a bit of privacy), hard vinyl floors, and not a tactile piece of furniture in sight. Floor cleanliness could be better - or maybe it's down to the type of floor covering which is a magnet for dirt/dust.

I found Penny to be extremely accommodating, making us feel very welcome for the entirety of our stay. The breakfast was most enjoyable with plenty of choice on offer. The location served our purposes very nicely.

The location was pretty good with local shops and a pub nearby and a local landmark. The scenery was nice with good views of the sea and mountains nearby.

The room was cramped and pretty small in size. There was nowhere else to go in the property except the room itself. Very busy road outside.

Small room with large double bed taking up most of the space. No chair, just a stool which was too wobbly to sit on (I reported it to the chambermaid as I was leaving. Nowhere to unpack my luggage, except on the bed. Bathroom too cramped for comfort (and I am not much above average height or girth). The room was only big enough for a single bed and a comfortable chair. TV reception was terrible and WiFi was slow.
