We loved this elegant, beautifully decorated hotel. Our rooms were all light and spacious and ours (I had made the booking) was upgraded. The food was superb, both for dinner and breakfast. There was a lot of variety to suit all tastes. (Our party included vegetarians and vegans.) The staff went out of their way to be helpful: we were a party of 11 having a family reunion and it was wonderful to be served dinner in a private room, at a round table, which made conversation so much easier. Our visit coincided with a wedding, but when we wished to go outside, tables and chairs were removed for us from the terrace on to a large grassy area, which was ideal for the boys of 11 and 14 (and adults too!) to play football and badminton. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, not even packing up a special pillow for collection that had been inadvertently left behind. It was a wonderful stay.

We stayed at York House Hotel while attending a wedding and had a great stay. The owner, Michael, was very accommodating with our request to check in early to allow us time to freshen up for the wedding reception. The room was very clean and comfortable and had everything that we needed. The breakfast was exceptional with quality ingredients and a lovely continental selection to help ourselves to as well. We will definitely stay here again when next in Whitley Bay.

Our bathroom was on the small side, we’d usually share the bathroom but it wasn’t big enough for 2! But for a short stay this wasn’t a problem.

Location fantastic, the views from the terrace across Wensleydale are beautiful. The room was very comfortable and the range of teas and coffees supplied was good quality and varied. Fresh milk too ! The drawing room and public areas stylish and relaxing, staff very helpful and friendly.

Our room had no view of the countryside but was the last available of that type - not a complaint, just the only thing that wasn't perfect!

It was extremely clean and tidy. Location was excellent. We used when visiting Cardiff to see Pink at the Principality stadium. Could not have been better located and everything within walking distance.

Could have done with a Dustpan and brush and a corkscrew. And more glasses. There were 4 of us and only 3 tall glasses.

It was further out of the town than we thought but that was our bad research as nothing was within walking distance, apart from a nice old pub around a mile away but a lovely village setting.

Overpriced for what it was. Breakfast was a disappointment, first bite of scrambled egg revealed half a peppercorn.
