London is the most amazing place, with many amazing people and attractions. But it is not a fairy tale city. It is real, and parts of it are gritty. I'm from the UK, and I can tell you that if you have a need, or problem, at a hotel or a station or a venue, ask in a friendly and respectful way and you will be helped 99 times out of a 100. It's a very safe and civilised city, but if the toilet roll paper isn't folded to your exact requirements, just refold it yourself and move on with all the good stuff. Staying for a single night enabled me to attend an outstanding BBC Symphony Orchestra concert, but the hotel prices in London have escalated to ridiculous levels. I suspect it is not likely to be a place I will visit often or for sustained periods in the future as there are far more competitive locations elsewhere, especially in Germany.

This is one of the most exciting cities in the world. There are famous places to see, but it helps to reserve tickets in advance. However, a lot of the fun is just walking around, especially along the banks of the Thames. The River Cruise to Greenwich and back is a wonderful way to see the city too. Learn to use the Underground, forget driving. Best place to eat fish and chips: North Sea Restaurant, near Russell Square area.

I lived in Essex in the 1980s so I remember Stratford, Essex from then. It is lovely to see how the area has been re-generated by the legacy of the 2012 Olympics. Queen Elizabeth Park is beautiful. You can walk through it or take a boat ride. Or go up the Arcel-Mittall Orbit tower and come down on it's slide. There is a huge shopping centre if you like shopping and The Line Art Walk which takes you from Stratford through West Ham and via cable car to North Greenwich.

The whole apartment building was beautifully maintained and elegant but our individual apartment needed a few repairs and was not of the same standard. Issues were dealt with by the office as quickly as possible. The apartment was clean, the bed was comfortable but if you are using the lounge room as a bedroom there is limited room.
