Montecatini Terme has been known for centuries as one of the most famous spa towns in Italy. Located in the Tuscan province of Pistoia, the town started the process of building baths to contain the thermal waters at the foot of the Montecatini hill as early as in 1530.
The famous baths of Tettuccio, Bagno Regio and Terme Leopoldine were built in the 1770’s, during the rule of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold of Habsburg-Lorraine. It was only at the beginning of the 20th century and after several changes of names that it started to gain fame as a popular resort.
New baths and spa hotels were built at Montecatini’s foothill, growing the quality of the services, and changing the conceptual approach. The baths were joined by Art Nouveau buildings, as well as a casino, theatres, restaurants and nightclubs. Famous intellectuals and artists of the time like Giuseppe Verdi and Luigi Pirandello could often be seen around.
It can be reached though both the Central and the Monsummano railway stations. Florence Airport is 47 km away, while Pisa Airport is 65 km away. Find the accommodation that best suits your needs on Booking.com and enjoy a sothing hooliday in Montecatini Terme.

It has 2 railway stations, Centrale and Therme.
It has 2 railway stations, Centrale and Therme. Centrale close to the main town centre, upmarket shops as well as many restaurants mostly Italian, but other food types as well. There are many hotels of all types, but parts of the town look a little run down. A daily permanent market in Via Pietro Grocco, is nice to wander through, although out of season not all open. At the northern area, there is the Funicular to Montecatini Alto. A lovely village perch on top of the hill, boasting a number of restaurants in the market square, and historic hill fort and parish church. If you’re using the train to get to Montecatini, recommend that the Trenitalia app is downloaded to see current train arrivals and departures and most importantly, platform numbers. Use this in conjunction with their website. Train to Pisa s Rossore, just 10 mins from Leaning Tower monuments. A trip to Cinque Terre will pick up from Montecatini Therme station.

Nice place, but our main destinations were Florence and Cinque Terre. There are good train connections.
We made some short walk tour in park and went to Montecatini Alto by "Funicolare"-cable-operated carriages dating from 1898.

We used Montecatini as a base to explore the rest of this Tuscany area. We spent a few days exploring Montecatini and then took a train to visit the other cities. It is easy to travel to Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Pistoia, as they are all on the same direct railway line.
The funicular to Montecatini Alto makes for a good half day excursion.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from offering everything from basic pizzas to high quality steak meals. You can select a meal to suit your taste and budget.
There is a large and quiet park where you can walk or just sit in the shade of the trees.

I had the pleasure of visiting Montecatini Terme recently, and I must say it was an incredible experience. The town's natural beauty and charming atmosphere left me enchanted. The healing thermal waters and the rejuvenating spa treatments provided a perfect opportunity for relaxation and wellness. The parks and gardens were simply breathtaking, offering serene spots to unwind and enjoy the surroundings. The local cuisine was a delight, with an array of delicious Tuscan specialties to savor. The hospitality of the people was remarkable, making me feel welcomed and cared for throughout my visit. Montecatini Terme is truly a hidden gem that exceeded all my expectations. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a peaceful and revitalizing getaway.

Stayed here as wasn't prepared to pay stupid prices to stay in Florence. It was a bit of a hunch to stay here, but was perfect. It is about 30mins from Florence on a cheap and frequent local train, or Lucca, Pisa and Viareggio the other way.
There are some lovely buildings there and the thermal baths are open in the morning (although not sure you can go swimming in the pools). There is a great outdoor eating area, just next door to the open air theatre. A trip on the funicular railway to Montecatini Alto is well worth it.
The area seems to have suffered a little from covid, with many hotels closed and abandoned. However, it seems to be picking up and there were plenty of international tourists staying there. There are some very smart shops starting to re-open.

Amazing reception area with glorious floral display, elegant dining and breakfast room, generous and varied buffet breakfast. The bedrooms were stylish with superb views towards Montecatini Alto, great to wake up to! The location of the hotel meant that we were close to all the amenities of the centre - 10 minute stroll to the station.
We were a small group of seven and couldn't have been looked after with more care and attention. I have to say something about the really lovely staff - they were charming, welcoming and made our stay!
I absolutely love this hotel - location, staff, cleanliness and our room. We were booked first for 3 nights and then decided to stay for an extra night. I think I made the best choice by booking this hotel!
Staff is very friendly, nice and helpful. Also, I’m highly recommending to book a massage in their spa! The massage therapist is absolutely amazing.
I’m definitely coming back!
The room was really nice and big and there was AC (: The people were also very nice and when the swimming pool was looking dirty from a broken filter, they tried really hard to clean it as soon as possible. After a few days, the pool was completly clean again, the filter was working again and we had some nice swims. The hotel lies central in Tuscany.
Great location, lovely hotel with a very helpful staff. The room was comfortable and the service was good. Our breakfast was exceptional with a great variety of food. The staff was friendly and eager to help. We were able to walk all over Montecatini from our hotel, and it was a short walk to the train. We hope to have another chance to stay here.
The location. Lovely breakfast with huge choice, including eggs and bacon, a rarity in Italy!
Excellent stop-over for us, half way between Rome and Cuneo in Piedmont. It allowed us to visit Pisa in the early hours of the following morning. That was positive as Pisa was quiet and uncrowded at that time.
The staff are cordial and welcoming.
Montecatini & Montecatini alto are lovely places
The hotel is basic but clean & good value for money also it is five minutes from the railway station for easy access to & from Florence. Pisa, Lucca & further afield
Also Hotel is very near numerous cafés & restaurants
trains are more or less on time and very cheap compared to the U.K
We had an amazing stay! The villa is really a beautiful place that takes you back in time and offers a breathtaking panorama of Montecatini Terme and the surrounding area. Everything is just perfectly clean and elegant. Luca is a fantastic host and takes care of every detail. Definitely recommendable!
Everything. Location, cleanliness, breakfast, staff etc. This was my second stay in this hotel.
All the staff are amazing. Unfortunately I cannot remember all the names, but in time, my big thank to Sara, Antonio, Albert, Elenia and all the pleasant people that are part of the team of the hotel.
Staff extremely pleasant. Coffee was great! The room was nice, clean, bed was comfortable, I slept really well. The first hotel in Italy where we could watch BBC news in English. Breakfast was okay, a bit basic but all right.
Loved this hotel! Location is excellent and the room was lovely. They have a bike room which was a nice plus for our mountain bikes. Breakfast was also great and the staff very attentive. Will definitely go back soon!
everything was fantastic!! I’m happy to be this place! big clean room and what important for me it’s bed ,and here it’s big one bed ! so welcome to this place! it’s very closed to the center of Montecatini-Terme
Extremely pleasant and lovely hosts. We were late in arriving, we called and no one saw a problem in that. The hotel is in the center of town and everything is close. The room was extremely clean, day by day.
Beautiful room with an amazing view, great breakfast with many options to choose and really nice hosts, I strongly recommend this place. Definitely the best hotel during our 2-weeks trip to Tuscany
Very great apartments with cooking options in a good part of Montecatini Terme. Close to the train station, grocery store. Great, friendly staff and all clean. We didn't miss anything, I recommend
