Much nicer than I expected. Lots to do and see.
Much nicer than I expected. Lots to do and see. Great transport system. roads and pavements clean, many of them newly replaced. Plenty of things to see and do. Quite easy to get around, and the city map is very helpful - though maybe a little out of date!? We were there for 2 days, and spent the first evening at the Northern General Hospital, after a trip-up on the pavement. The Ambulance service was great and the treatment at hospital very thorough. The second afternoon and evening was spent in the wonderful botanic gardens, ending with an excellent "Theatre in the Park" production of Robin Hood by the Ragamuffins. A much better way to spend an evening! Thank you "SHEFFIELD" for an very interesting short break!Guest review byJackUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lovely Park with walks, cafe, playground and a great little train for the Kids and the Young at Heart. Nice little town with national retail and independant shops. St Mary's Church is nice to visit too. There are two Wetherspoons and several Costa's/Caffè Nero's plus independently owned eating places too. The Thursday Market is super, with some great bargains.Guest review byGarryUnited Kingdom - 10.0
I like the shops in Matlock, especially The Victorian...
I like the shops in Matlock, especially The Victorian Emporium. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants & bars as well. I travel down from Scotland when my friend is playing guitar & singing at Folk Festivals in the Derbyshire area. I eat at various restaurants, to try them out. I like to find out which one suits me best. There are always good music venues in the Derbyshire area, & plenty of choice. The only disappointment was a bus that didn't arrive on the time stated, & my train to Matlock was cancelled from Derby Railway Station. I had to wait for a replacement bus, for over an hour & a half. It didn't arrive at all, but they put a taxi to Matlock on for me, & I got to my hotel at 1.00 on Sunday morning ! I come down on the train around 3 times a year. ( I didn't bring my camera, so I have no photographs to add.) I haven't had time to try any local attractions, like the ones mentioned below. I was too busy visiting the music festivals which were fantastic !Guest review byCoulter - 10.0

Macclesfield offered a peaceful and charming atmosphere. The hotel environment was excellent — clean, serene, and surrounded by nature. We experienced great comfort throughout our two-day stay. The spa facilities and breakfast were delightful, and the staff at reception were polite and welcoming.Guest review byLungoweUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Ashbourne is very quiet because most of the houses are second homes. Lost a lot of locals, doctor, post office and shop. . The pub food wasn’t brilliant so had to go further afield. Very pretty village where locals can’t afford houses Seems to be a problem in all rural areas .Guest review byColinUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Stockport´s location in a ravine with a Victorian viaduct towering overhead makes for a very unusual and intriguing town. Also most interesting are the timber frame houses one finds from Tudor times. Lots of pubs and not generic ones either.Guest review byDominic - 8.0
