FAQs about hotels in Leeds

Stylish, Stately and A Shopping Haven!

Between Bronte Country and the Yorkshire Dales, Leeds is a stately city with a wealth of impressive Georgian and Victorian buildings. The most celebrated is the town hall, a historic gem with a huge clock tower supported by columns. Just around the corner is the understated Leeds Cathedral, and between the two is Millennium Square, a large urban space that plays host to outdoor concerts and a German Christmas market.

Shopping in Leeds is fantastic. Kirkgate Market is Europe’s largest covered market, and the magnificent, round Corn Exchange is home to exclusive boutiques. The city also has the first Harvey Nichols outside of London, as well as the usual high street brands.

As home to 2 large universities, Leeds has a young and vibrant vibe. It has repeatedly been voted the clubbing capital of the UK and is home to the Leeds Festival, an annual music event that attracts thousands.

The city also has excellent sporting pedigree. Internationals are held at Headingley cricket ground, and Leeds United FC and the Leeds Rhinos rugby league team are well-known names in their fields.

On the outskirts of the city are wonderful Roundhay Park, Kirkstall Abbey and Leeds-Bradford International Airport. Leeds accommodations on Booking.com covers all areas of this elegant city.

We visited Leeds on the 21st -22nd December mainly for the Christmas Market on the Saturday day abs night. In a nutshell, it was a real disappointment! There were 2 main markets. One was very small - City Square. Basically, no atmosphere with a few stalls empty. The vendors looked miserable and though it was raining this was no excuse. The other was in Millennium Square about a 2 min walk away….but we were told that this had closed down that night! This one had the carousel which we wanted to go on and a big wheel with other rides. Closed on a Saturday night too! - seeing lots of families with young children being turned away was just awful. This was due to the weather we were told. It was normal rain and a bit of wind??!! We had travelled from Lincolnshire so we felt very let down. Fortunately we visited the Corn Exchange earlier in the day and again the day after - was very Christmassy with lots of independent shops and stalls - overall, my 17 year old daughter and I enjoyed it as we stayed on a lovely hotel (Marriott?) and did lots of shopping so our visit wasn’t a total waste of time. We won’t come to the Xmas markets in Leeds again though but Leeds is still a lovely city to visit.

    I'm from Leeds.

I'm from Leeds. I moved away for study and work after 15 years. I love it. There is so much to see and do. The city centre is compact but has everything you need. Top tips: Have lunch in the market. Follow the Owl Trail (find it online) to learn the history of the city. Take a walk around Europes biggest urban park with 700 acres. Check out Monks Bridge Viaduct. Kirkstall Abbey. If you enjoy a tipple there's plenty of breweries to try including Northern Monk, Kirkstall and Wild child Best time visit: October for Light Night.

We did not really see it as I had a hospital appointment that took up the day before returning home. The part we were in seemed have been quite grand in the old days with very large houses but I assume they were now multi inhabited flats.

    Beautiful and lively student city.

Beautiful and lively student city. However I am told that the city has gone down after Brexit as less students especially from Europe are going there. It was obvious esp given it was a Wednesday with both Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea playing yet pubs were barely full. We are told life is now expensive for students and they can't afford it anymore coupled with less flow of students from EU means more business are missing out and vibes are going down. We are told previously, such nights meant full pubs

Well worth a visit. Vibrant modernised small city. Friendly and feels safe and civilised even at night. Much better vibe in the centre for an evening night out than some other Northern Cities. I'd much rather go out in Leeds than Manchester or Durham that's for sure.

Leeds is a vibrant city with a very young population or so it seems - lots of students. Regeneration happening around the river on both sides. Good bus transport and many pedestrianised areas in the city centre. Loads of eateries throughout Leeds with all ethnicities represented. Supposedly the poor relation to Manchester but it didn't seem that way to me.
