The shops consist of lots of fish and chip shops, gift shops and the usual amusement arcade found in traditional seaside towns. It's a traditional resort, with all amenities, unspoiled by progress. Amusement arcades are kept to a minimum. The seagulls can be a menace, but we didn't lose chips or ice-cream. It is a lovely resort, albeit very traditional. Some might say staid but I like it. Things wind down early in the evening, few places to eat much after 8pm. The main town is compact and the centrally situated steam railway is brilliant. My only gripe is the extortionate car parking charges which were clearly putting off visitors. £4.60 an hour or £21 a day by the seafront, and not exactly cheap even in the main carpark which is 10 mins from the beach. It was good to have train and bus transport at the same location and well advertised timetables. A good choice and variety of shops, cafes and restaurants in the town and very friendly and polite staff . A pleasant coastal walk to Peveril Point and great views of the coast. A smooth journey on the steam railway from Swanage to Corfe Castle which has interesting ruins to explore. A pretty typical UK seaside resort with all the usual facilities. Beach is sandy with gentle gradient into the sea. Good for children and swimmers generally. No big funfair type activities. Kitchen is well equipped, with a small dishwasher and washing machine available. Bathroom is on the small side, but with a powerful shower. There’s a couple of cafes there, they serve breakfast and lunch until 3pm weather permitting. You can walk along this coastal path into Swanage.
