We were very happy at this hotel. Super helpful front desk and bell staff -- very welcoming. The room was a generous size, and everything seemed updated. The room finishings and amenities were nice; it's not a high-end sort of place, but it felt high-end-adjacent -- they're trying hard. The bed and bedding were COMFORTABLE. The buffet breakfast was REALLY GOOD. No, they haven't found a way to make chafing-dish-eggs into something delectable, but the eggs were still good, plus they offered a veggie frittata that we haven't seen elsewhere. The hotel has reserved a big corner of the ground floor with huge windows for the breakfast and bar area. The space is bright and airy for an evening drink or for breakfast. The hotel's location is fine. You won't feel like you're in tourist ground zero -- the hot spots aren't far, but they aren't right where the hotel is, either. Fisherman's Wharf, for example, is a little over a mile away, but we walked it (mostly downhill), and we're both north of 60. You can also pick up the cable car on California Street a little over a block away.

FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.

In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

I grew up in San Francisco, so I love going there and meeting friends. If you like museums and water front and access to wine country, it is great. Best place for interesting food too, from funky but delicious corner market sandwich shops, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and all western food, to great pizza, Dungeness crab, burritos, tacos and Dim Sum!

San Francisco is a city that captivates from the moment you arrive, with its stunning views, iconic landmarks, and rich cultural diversity. Whether you’re walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, exploring the historic streets of Chinatown, or watching the fog roll in over the bay, the city offers a unique blend of natural beauty and urban charm. Each neighborhood has its own personality—from the bohemian energy of Haight-Ashbury to the upscale elegance of Pacific Heights—making every stroll an adventure. The food scene is phenomenal, offering everything from fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf to innovative cuisine in the Mission District. Beyond the sights and flavors, what truly stands out is the city’s spirit: inclusive, creative, and always welcoming. San Francisco isn’t just a place to visit—it’s a place to experience, reflect, and fall in love with.

Wonderful city! I try to visit different parts of city each time I'm here. Went to Marshall's beach to get pictures of Golden Gate Bridge from the ocean side. Mission Dolores Park, beautiful! Ross alley to see fortune cookies being made. All the good food. Love it!

One of the greatest cities in the US, I love the people, the mix of cultures, the fantastic food, and the cool summer days, which are hard to beat. Check out the cable car museum and then head over to Chinatown for a Dim Sum lunch.

San Francisco is a city dancing between contrasts.

San Francisco is a city dancing between contrasts. With its iconic hills rolling through every neighborhood, it offers breathtaking views and unexpected workouts—sometimes both at once! The charm lies in how seamlessly the city blends beach vibes, mountainous terrain, world-class art and culture, bustling business energy, and still manages to feel like a cozy small town! Each street has its own character, from the buzzing lanes of Chinatown to the quiet pastel rows of Victorian homes. We especially cherished the bright, breezy summer days when the sun cast a golden light over the bay. The weather has personality: Karl the Fog drifts in like a moody friend, and the wind—powerful enough to deserve its own name—keeps things exhilarating. We absolutely loved our peaceful visits to the Japanese Tea Garden and the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park. And beyond the city borders, Muir Woods offered an awe-inspiring escape into towering redwoods and serenity. Sausalito, with its coastal charm and artistic vibe, made for a perfect day trip. For an unforgettable culinary experience, Wahpepah’s Kitchen in Oakland—led by Chef Crystal Wahpepah—is a must-visit. Her Indigenous cuisine brings deep heritage, creativity, and soul to the Bay Area’s dining scene. San Francisco isn’t just a destination—it’s a layered experience of nature, culture, flavor, and wonder.

We really enjoyed our stay! The hotel has a good old-fashioned vibe but everything was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is in the perfect location - close to everything and just a minute from the cable car station and 5 minutes walking to the Union Square. The stuff was also very friendly and welcoming. A nice touch of fresh sweet pastry every morning and unlimited selection of tea and coffee. Definitely recommend this place while visiting San Francisco!
