Southeast of Birmingham, Coventry is best known for the shell of its old cathedral, a poignant reminder of the damage sustained during World War II. Part of its northern wall joins the new Modernist cathedral, designed by Sir Basil Spence.
In the neighboring gardens, there are remains of an 11th-century Benedictine monastery set up by Lord Leofric. His wife, Lady Godiva, became Coventry’s greatest legend by riding naked on horseback in protest of her husband’s high taxes.
St. Mary’s Guildhall is built on part of the old castle, and Baginton on the city’s outskirts houses the reconstructed Roman Lunt Fort. Coventry Airport is also here, by the Midland Air Museum, where the exhibits include a Vulcan.
The Coventry Transport Museum has great examples of vehicles manufactured in the city over the years. Another point of interest are the canals north of the city's center, lined by historic buildings. Other attractions include the Warwick Arts Centre – the UK’s 2nd largest – and the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City FC. The Sky Dome Arena is an ice hockey and music venue, while the best shopping is found in Arena Park Center.
The city has 2 universities and tons of bars and restaurants. There are also several Coventry hotels, guesthouses and country houses on Booking.com, most with parking and some with pools.
We adored the water features in the middle of the pavement!
We adored the water features in the middle of the pavement! So many sequences and lights ,fascinating. The Museum and wildlife photography exhibition brilliant, the Cathedral and ruins, the wonderful market. Neither my sister and I had visited before so were delighted not just to see the statue of Lady Godiva, but the amazing event which happens every hour on the building behind her. Amusing and well worth watching. ( Naughty peeping Tom ! )
All in all Coventry has amazing choices of where and what to eat. The Old Wetherspoons is well worth a visit. We went twice. We are certainly planning another visit before the end of the year. Shirl

I'm from Coventry and know it well.
I'm from Coventry and know it well. Although I feel affection for my home city, I don't actually like it very much.
There are some brilliant attractions, nice restaurants, and the city centre can be pleasant on a summer's day; however much of the city looks dirty and worn, and I don't always feel safe walking in the city at night. For this reason a city centre hotel with parking on the outskirts entails using cabs or buses to reach the car, which adds expense.
I think for a visitor though those things are manageable; Coventry's no worse, probably better and safer, than many cities; it's just not like it was when I grew up there.
I'm surprised the Transport Museum and the Herbert Gallery are not listed as attractions to rate here. The city also has a proud and deserved musical heritage (Two-Tone) and there are exhibits about this, and some wonderfully preserved mediaeval buildings (Spon Street and elsewhere). There is a fascinating preserved archaeological dig in the cathedral quarter that was extensively covered by Time Team.

There's plenty to do for a weekend visit: the Transport Museum is one none of the best in the country & certainly one located in the middle of the city centre. Herbert Gallery has a great location in a terrific building & location. Coventry Cathedral is beautiful & unique & a wonderful example of post-war British architecture as is the shopping area made up of a series of interlocking pedestrian precincts that was Britain's first. The 1950s architecture is fantastic & a little bit like time-travelling as it is largely complete & unspoilt.
There is plenty of shopping opportunities with a really wide mix of shops that makes the city centre a place for everyone & this is shown to be true as, at the weekends, it's full of people & provides a dynamic atmosphere to the city.

Poor venues and extremely scruffy.
Poor venues and extremely scruffy. No street cleaning and fines for parking, bus lanes, speed traps, poor roads with huge pot holes in all areas. Stupid shared pedestrian and car areas in main traffic routes.

The duvet was thin and weren't strong and warm enough.
The duvet was thin and weren't strong and warm enough. The door you can't even lock it as anyone could walk in but tried few times to lock it not happy about that. Asked staff nicely to book a taxi but took ages but then went to get flag one down to luckily get one and the central heating it weren't hot enough but wouldn't recommend staying there again unless sort it out

It feels a bit pointless giving Coventry a bad review,...
It feels a bit pointless giving Coventry a bad review, because whoever has been there must know it is such a depressing place. Since I went to both Birmingham and Coventry in the 1980s, only the former has improved as a city (and greatly!), but Coventry is a ghastly mess that makes Croydon look like Tenerife. It's as if the worst Heathrow airport suburbs had been cut and pasted around multi-storey car parks and inner-city flyovers. All places have something for someone, of course, and there's a cathedral that might appeal to some, but ugliness is the town's most obvious characteristic.
The hotel is in a quiet residential streeet. The gentleman who runs the place is frendly and helpful. The room had all the facilities you would expect. It was tastefully furnished. It was clean and tidy. Plug sockets were provided on the desk and bedside cabinet. The breakfast was good and prepared to order. There was a small TV in the room but there was also a TV room with a large TV (I watched the rugby on it) The next time that I need to stay in Coventry I will be staying here.
A very good 3 bedrooms unit for a family. It has a toilet and/or full bathroom on each floor. The kitchen, living room and all the 3 bedrooms are well equipped. The property owners are really nice, and they were absolutely supportive throughout our stay. We really had a nice time and properly enjoyed our 4 nights stay.
If we ever return to Coventry, this is definitely where we shall book to stay.
Thanks to the property owners and Booking.com.
Absolutely spotless rooms with very modern facilities.
Bathroom had nice full bottles of shampoo/shower gel and extra toilet paper.
Kitchen had plenty cutlery/utensils/cleaning supplies.

Loved having a room away from the hotel . It was spacious & clean.
Having a bath and shower is a bonus .
Excellent heating.
Able to park next to your room as well was a pleasant surprise.
Breakfast is self service but all hot and plenty of choice.
Great check out time off 11am perfect when it's frosty.
It’s an old hotel but with excellent location. Also with a very reasonable price and the room is big. You got what you’ve paid. Very fair. Don’t expect a luxurious room, but it’s clean and spacious also great location. And the price. So it’s all fair.
For a motorway hotel this is a genuinely good place to stay. Conveniently located close to Coventry. The rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful. Have stayed here a few times now.
Hotel is based in the middle of Coventry town, so city center is walking distance. Hotel is new and provides a feel of a new hotel. Rooms are very comfortable. I will be staying here again on the next visit.
The staff allowed me to check in early, they were extremely helpful as this was my first time in Coventry and the hotel staff directed me to where I had to go.
Friendly staff. Hotel very clean. Great location, 10 minute walk from Coventry City centre. Lovely breakfast buffet, from croissants to full English breakfast.
