Location was excellent! We got a basement room. We did have a window but unable to open it. The room has no AC and it was very uncomfortable when weather got warmer. There was a stand fan but barely working. There is only one outlet in the whole room.

FAQs about hotels in Portsmouth

Royal Dockyard of the British Isles

An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.

In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.

The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.

For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

Always plenty to see & do. Royal Marines band had a rehearsal for a performance to be held at the weekend & so a preview, without crowds, was achieved (especially as I couldn't stay for the weekend

Portsmouth has a wide variety of interesting places to visit but I wouldn't describe it as a seaside holiday resort. It is a city. Southsea front has museums but the beach is rather stony and wouldn't be to everyones' taste.

We came to Portsmouth for a specific sailing event - SailGP - over two days. Also excellent opportunity to visit Naval Dockyard with Explorer Pass being great value for money. We were mostly around Gunwharf Quay, along seafront to Southsea Common and at Naval Dockyard - impressed by how clean streets in these areas were.

Explorer Pass at the Historic Dockyard is well worth the cost, a really terrific value that lasts for a year - just in case you cannot get all the sites done in one trip. We did our best, but missed the Explosion Museum. We were very sad to hear that Battle Stations was 1. closed and 2. for kids, because we both would have loved to have a go at it. We really didn't leave the Dockyard, there was so much to see and do. Looking forward to a return trip soon to pick up from where we left off.

We were sorely disappointed by our first ever visit to Portsmouth - the only place of interest was the Spinnaker Tower and the modern waterfront complex of chain restaurants and outlet clothes shops. It had a distinct lack of independent cafes and restaurants. The ferry trip to the Isle of Wight was interesting but the Isle itself was incredibly quiet and boring.

Superb staff, very helpful and friendly. Room at the back was quiet and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Being so close to both the railways station and the harbour was fabulous as I was cycling around England and in need of both. Would love to return and visit the very close, ie. end of the road, historical delights of Portsmouth. Just loved my stay here and will definitely be back.

Very nice, clean hotel in a convenient and quiet location very close to the Historic Dockyard and Portsmouth Harbour waterfront and a short walk from the train station. The room was a good size, with lift access. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent. There was a nice quiet bar downstairs as well as a restaurant. There was also a guest laundery.
