This hotel was really nice, I loved the vintage decor and the staff were super friendly. I would stay here again based on the interior alone. The place had a very cozy atmosphere to it.

FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

First-class Shopping, Culture and Sports

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centers. Well-known for its M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it's also a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city center hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping center, and behind that is Digbeth Bus Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Center) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just across the street is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modeled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top soccer clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

Birmingham is a busy, multi-cultural city but doesn't feel overcrowded. The area round Victoria Square and Centenary Square was impressive as was the Library building. This area was generally clean and tidy. The City Gardens is a peaceful oasis close to the library, museum and Symphony Hall. The Botanical Gardens are worth a visit via tram, bus or foot, although the tram driver didn't know which was the right stop! Canal-side walks are interesting, as is the Jewelry Quarter.

Very bust but to be expected, the memorials to Ozzy were exceptionally busy, but no problems. City has done loads of work to improve its reputation and image, what a positive difference since our last visit over 10 years ago. Well done Birmingham

We were there for and event do did not see much of it. City centre has a clean air charge and there are many 20mph zones. Edgbaston is a beautiful suburban area take in the nearby Botanic Garden as well as the one at even closer by zwimbirne House...sighnifivan discount in tickets booked via hotel.

We were there for the UK Athletics meeting.

We were there for the UK Athletics meeting. A great weekend. However, it was clear for all to see that the town and suburbs are in desperate need of road-sweeping, litter collection etc. I know there is an on-going strike but it appears that the whole area has just given up caring. Perry Hall Park was beautiful.

    It’s overall a nice town.

It’s overall a nice town. But saw young group of kids having drugs some adults drugged and unconscious on footpath. Police was there and was very pleasant to talk to. But overall what you see on news these days. You could actually see it Birmingham. It was strange. It looks rough. And it was not because of asylums it was British born people there English and black. Who were drugged fully alcoholic and on streets. It was sad to see so many people in that state of life. One you person may be in late 20s looked like he will die soon. Very sad to see people in that state. May lord help them all.

Broad street by the canal area & Mailbox is very good!

Broad street by the canal area & Mailbox is very good! Many restaurants & bars to choose from. Very high Police presence & this makes you feel very safe. Arcadian/China town is clean and has some lovely bars & restaurants. Has the feel of being on holiday abroad. Hippodrome theatre at top of Hurst Street is excellent. Comedy club in arcadian is very good!

The staff are lovely! We were greeted by Sean on check-in and he was friendly and very accommodating about keeping our party together, even though it hadn't occurred to me to ask. Throughout our stay, the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The hotel is just a ten minute walk from New St station and very close to everything Birmingham city centre has to offer.

I love old grand Victorian railway hotels, and the Burlington is not only ideally placed for Birmingham New Street station but also the shops, restaurants and museums of the city centre. Nice large rooms, great breakfast, friendly staff - highly recommended.

Price! For a H.I.E. hotel in the heart of Birmingham city centre, the price offered was exceptional. However, had to pay big amount on parking too, which reduced the good effect of very good stay/breakfast price.
