The evening staff was lovely. There was no heat in the room when we arrived and the young gentleman did everything he could to figure out what the issue was. Which he did solve. The room was very tastefully furnished in a very charming inn.

My wife stayed for one night here. Found it to be a lovely hotel. Extremely convenient for walking into the center of Winchester. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. They kindly up-graded the room, as the original was, a few corridors away from the main area. Beautiful room, clean, neat and wonderfully quiet, couldn't fault it. Only a personal preference, would have liked softer pillows, as they were a little too firm .

This city has a small centre so everywhere is easy to get to. The older parts around the cathedral and college are fantastic and there is a lovely walk out around the water meadows. The selection of buzzing restaurants and bars is impressive and we had no problem booking tables. The cathedral is exceptional. Our ticket was valid for a year so we will be back when the christmas markets come.

Winchester is a small compact city, easy to walk around and lots of history to enjoy. Sad that the main high street looks much like other towns/cities in England. More boutique or niche shops would be lovely.

Loved the history of the Cathedral and castles. Also some very interesting pubs and restaurants with their own history. Fantastic for walking round, beautiful green spaces as well as a vibrant high street. Go on a tour with Get Your Guide - their guides are full of interesting information and you get to see places you would not usually see just walking round.

Be sure to take a guided tour of the cathedral, visit the City Mill and enjoy a stroll along the river bank and through the old city past the College, Bishop's Palace, St Swithun's church, etc.

First time visit to Winchester and we were very impressed.

First time visit to Winchester and we were very impressed. Exploring the Cathedral is a must, the £14 entry fee is good value. We spent a good 90 minutes, or so walking around, including the exhibitions (Kings and Queens of England and Jane Austin). Wolvesey Castle is fascinating (and has free entry). Just wandering the city centre streets is wonderful, particularly for those interested in architecture as there is so much to see. Some good pubs, in particular the Old Vine (we eat there and would highly recommend) and the Wykeham Arms (a proper back street pub with great character and atmosphere; would have liked to spend more time here!!). For eating, if you like Thai food, you must visit the Bangkok Bistro, excellent food! For a 2 night stopover (we were on our way back from East Sussex to Devon) Winchester is a fabulous choice.

An ancient city (the old capital of Wessex and King Alfred).

An ancient city (the old capital of Wessex and King Alfred). My spiritual home (OK, I am biased in Winchester's favour!). An hour southwest of London Waterloo station and 25 minutes from Southampton Airport. I have yet to find a suboptimal pub, restaurant or taxi service. Tourist views will meet 99% or all visitors. Just don't expect to drive quickly around the city - use the many efficient park&rides on the outskirts. "Plagued" by the M3 at Junction 9 - which, in 2025, is finally being expanded to rectify the deficient roads planning in 1983-1985 when the M3 opened down to Winchester.

Location is right in the centre of town. All local attractions and shops are easily accessible on foot. Has parking, which is paid, but right behind the hotel and always had space when we stayed. Room and bathroom were both spacious, clean and built with quality. Had everything you need. Not a huge range for the choice during breakfast, but what was provided was excellent. Would definitely stay here again should we visit Winchester in the future.

The Staff went out of their way to help us. When we needed to Taxi although there was a phone directly to the Taxi she Called. When we checked out we were allowed to leave our bags at the Hotel. then one receptionist gave us insight into the Winchester as to where to go and because it appeared that Brian was evident. She loaned us an umbrella! She went out of her way to help! Awesome!

Next door to cathedral in centre of one of England's best towns. What more could you ask? Hotel has parking a' £15 per 24 hours, but probably worth it in a town like Winchester. Hotel looks and feels as though it is stuck in the 60s, and could do with a big dose of TLC.
