I was only able to stay in Seoul for a few days and it’s a huge shame that I could spend longer there. It’s a fantastically lively city with plenty of food, drink and entertainment to offer. In my short time there, I was hugely impressed by the free National Museum of Korea which is full of interesting displays and historical artefacts. A tour to the DMZ is also a must for anybody who wants to learn about Korea’s heartbreaking but hugely important modern history and it’s also a great opportunity for a big of a workout with a bit of hiking involved. I would have happily stayed in Seoul for much longer to take in more of what the city and its surrounding region has to offer.

I've never been to a place where the vendors so consistently tried to cheat or overcharge me. Air Busan was absolutely despicable, doing all of the things that the EU fined airlines several hundred million EUR for in 2024. And it doesn't improve once you arrive. Korea has a tourist "protection agency"- the Korea Tourism Organization- but their sole purpose appears to be telling tourists that "There's nothing we can do." And the prices in Seoul are outrageous. Even Tokyo was less expensive. Usually travel in Asia is very pleasant, and I have rarely ever encountered vendors trying to cheat me, but Seoul is the clear exception. You will get far more value for your travel dollars in any other Asian country.

My trip to Seoul was an unforgettable experience, full of...

My trip to Seoul was an unforgettable experience, full of vibrant energy, delicious food, exciting attractions, and world-class shopping. The city perfectly blends modern life with traditional charm, making it an ideal destination for any traveler. One of the highlights of my visit was exploring Seoul's cozy and aesthetically pleasing cafés. From minimalist coffee shops in Gangnam to quirky themed spots in Hongdae, every café offered not just great coffee but also a unique atmosphere perfect for relaxing or taking photos. Many places served specialty drinks and beautiful desserts that were just as enjoyable to look at as they were to taste. Another unforgettable day was spent at Everland, South Korea’s largest theme park. It was an absolute joy, offering a mix of thrilling rides, a lovely zoo, beautiful gardens, and seasonal festivals. The park is perfect for all ages and the attention to detail in the themed zones made the entire experience magical. The T Express roller coaster and the night parade were definite standouts. For shopping lovers, Seoul is a paradise. I spent hours wandering the streets of Myeongdong, one of the city’s most famous shopping districts. It was bustling with energy, offering everything from the latest Korean beauty products and fashion trends to endless street food options. Trying tteokbokki, hotteok, and Korean fried chicken right from street stalls added to the charm of the experience. I also visited several modern shopping malls like COEX and boutique shops in areas like Garosugil, where I found unique Korean brands and stylish fashion pieces. The blend of luxury and affordable finds makes shopping in Seoul exciting and satisfying. In short, Seoul exceeded my expectations in every way. From charming cafés and adrenaline-filled adventures at Everland to unforgettable shopping sprees in Myeongdong, the city offered something special at every turn. I can't wait to return and discover even more.

The culture is different from China where I have stayed year after year, but that is to be expected. Everywhere is much cleaner and organisation of the public transport around the city is well developed, but one has to get used to where everything is and particularly the elaborate but sometimes daunting signpostings. People are polite and respectful and maintain a good discipline when using public transport. English is quite widely used/understood.

Seoul is a big, modern city.

Seoul is a big, modern city. The traffic is heavy and daunting, so that it takes a long time to get relatively short distances from one attraction to another--like NYC. But, also like NYC, it has public busses and a metro, which we did not have time to master. From our point of view, Seoul's big attractions are its excellent (and free) museums, and its well-maintained historic architecture. On another trip to South Korea we would want to visit other historic cities like Busan.

If you are a foodie or love the nightlife, I think Seoul would be for you. The subway system is easy to navigate once you get used to it. People on the street can be very helpful and friendly but, from my experience, market traders seem to be older, bitter people who don’t seem to want to sell to you. Driving also seems more aggressive than other countries.

The location was close to everything especially Myeongdong market- we were there every other day! This is my first time in Seoul and I don’t know if it’s just a Korean thing but they had a washing machine in the room!! Which was soooooo convenient. The staff are really nice and helpful. We loved the pool and hot tub which were really clean and after a long day of walking it was the best thing to get back to😛. My friend also enjoyed the coffee shop in the hotel! Also the airport bus stop was a 1min walk which was amazing!
