The hotel is great, has a 100m swimming pool and is along the ocean. The breakfast is plentiful and nicely served. We had dinner there two nights. The menu is limited but delicious. It is a vacation spot great for families taking vacation.

The hotel is beautiful, clean and well maintained. Lovely gardens, peace and tranquility. The staff are professional, kind and helpful. Breakfast was abundant and delicious, with quality products- I particularly enjoyed the coffee and the orange juice. Travelers with children should know that the indoor pool is adults only from 9-11 a.m and from 19-21 p.m. It is very clearly stated- at the front desk, in the elevators, at the entrance of the pool. But ,of course, at 20 p.m, there was a couple with two young children. Well, we complained to the front desk and they quickly shooed them away. So, please, don't be those entitled parents. You have all day to enjoy the pool- follow the rules and let other guests enjoy it for a couple of hours without screeching, screaming and splashing.

The staff were very helpful in looking after our luggage when we checked in early - it was even in our room when we returned - and guiding us with a restaurant selection. The hotel was conveniently located to the train station with a short cut shown to us by the staff. The breakfast was fine and there were tea and coffee available at all times on the lower level.

Located between the restaurants of Sintra's pleasant historic center and the grand mansions and palaces Sintra is known for, Lawrence's Hotel was an excellence base from which to explore the area... if you can make it away from the comforts this hotel offers! Lawrence's claims to be the oldest hotel anywhere in Portugal or Spain, dating back to the 1750s. In its tranquil setting in sublime Sintra, it has rightly been host to figures such as Lord Byron (where he began writing Childe Harold's Pilgrimage) and Eça de Queiroz. The cozy hominess of its rooms and public spaces are perfect for curling-up with a book and a nice glass of port. The creaky wood floors, tiles, and antique furniture are enough to make one feel at home in another era... but updated where essential! The fixtures in our suite's bathroom, and the water pressure, were ample, and there were many outlets to charge those devices that, hopefully amidst the scenery of Sintra, at which you will scarcely care to glance. Just as special as the comforts of the hotel are its people: rarely have we ever been made to feel so welcome! From Amanda's enthusiastic greeting at the front desk, to the volunteered assistance up the stairs with our bags by the staff from the kitchen, to the delightful breakfast buffet serving the freshest fruit and some of the best pastries in Portugal (if that's possible), and a packed breakfast for our all-to-early departure, our only regret was that we could not stay longer.

We booked 2 rooms when we couldnt find a nice holiday home rental for 5 days in Sintra. With children , we usually prefer homes to hotels for privacy, space, and kitchen. But 2 huge rooms at Quinta dos Lobos were more affordable and lovely, and the staff was fantastic, friendly and helpful from the front desk managers, the restaurant staff, all the drivers , and the house/ maintanance staff.

If you're traveling to Portugal, Sintra is a must-see destination. While the Pena Palace and other famous historical sites offer plenty to see, nearby Cape Roca and the coastline, accessible within 30 minutes, offer a truly captivating experience.

Sintra is a beautiful, almost magical, place. Get your walking legs on as there are many hills, but everywhere in the town and the hills is beautiful. Castles, ruins, gardens, the sculpture gallery, good food. Sintra is well-served by a very central railway station with frequent trains between there and Lisbon.

Sintra is wonderful , but busy with lots of queuing at the castles , but well worth the effort involved. Plan your time with care there is a lot of rushing around between venues. Make the most of the bus service this does work very well, but be aware off how busy everywhere is . Sintra is literally a breath of fresh area in a magical location after the crowds of Lisbon.

The friendly welcome and historic setting of the hotel really made our visit to Sintra. Transport isn't easy. We walked from the town to Quinta Regalaria (15 mins) and then Pena Palace which takes an hour and was okay on a cool day. (We are 65+ but reasonably fit.) Rather than walk back, we got a tuk tuk from Pena Palace to the hotel for 10 euros. Taxis were 20 euro. The circular bus does an all day ticket which costs more for 2 people than the taxi, so wasn't good value for money if you were just doing one part of the journey. If you want to visit the botanical gardens at Monserrat there is a bus, but you won't easily fit the gardens in on the same day you visit the palaces, unless you got a taxi.

    Sintra is an amazing place.

Sintra is an amazing place. There are many places to visit so it merits at least 2 full days. For example, visiting the Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle will take a full day. I spent 2 and a half days and still was short of at least one place to see. Also, there are some hidden gems, for example while Quinta da Regaleria was full, I visited Biester Palace, an amazing Neo-Gothic mansion with extensive gardens which was empty.

Very interesting place, but has been over-discovered by most of the rest of the world, a good percentage of whom were there at the time we visited. Another good example of over-tourism and over-population. We enjoyed several of the local attractions, but even though we had walked a considerable distance to the Pena Castle, we didn't go in - the throngs of people were just too much. The local neighborhoods are being destroyed by the traffic and crowding, and are posting large signs to that effect - "Sintra is not Disneyland", etc. Recommend going off season, if at all. Since the attractions have been well presented in photos elsewhere, I'll post a couple to reinforce their message.

We had an upgrade to a top floor room. The view from one window looked towards the Atlantic Ocean, the other window up towards a 7th Century Moorish castle. Location is great, just 200 metres from the railway station and a shortish walk from the historic centre. Breakfast should be 11 out of 10, little dishes individually presented. Staff are very nice and make you feel at home. One of the best (and nicest) hotels we have stayed in.

Nestled above their own Vineyard, this boutique Hotel is reminiscent of a Family Home which no doubt it has been. Modernised & with amazing views across the coast. We enjoyed the Pool & also took a short Tour of the vineyard. Several good local options for Eating out provided us with things to do in the evenings.
