Beautiful town and friendly people.
Beautiful town and friendly people. We ate lunch three times (in four days!) at Fresher's Café and really enjoyed the food (obviously). They have their own delicious home-made quiches. I am sure this has to be the friendliest place to eat in the Lake District. Special mention to Michael, who was super helpful and humorous.
On the day we did not eat there, we went next door! To the Great North Pie Co and I had the best steak and ale pie I have ever had. It was served on mashed potato, with mushy peas and onion gravy.

Perfect town to stay at if seeking a base in Lake District.
Perfect town to stay at if seeking a base in Lake District. We didn’t have a car and honestly had no need for one as it was easy to reach by train and had plenty of local busses - including hikes that start at centre of town. Enough dining options and overall “village” feeling without it being too busy or too quiet / isolated. Traveled as a couple so cannot comment on appropriateness if a family
The room was excellent, clean, spacious and with good facilities. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony, even if the view of the lake was somewhat impeded by a large tree.
The staff were very helpful and could not have been kinder, especially when my wife stumbled and hurt her hand.
The wifi did not initially work, but by day 2 it was working very well.
Ambleside is less than a mile away and we had a wonderful meal there at Lucy's on a Plate.
Also the ferry stop is about 100 yards from the hotel.
The lodge was really lovely. very clean, a very comfy bed and everything you need for a few days away in Ambleside. We were in one of the dog friendly rooms which was in an annex at the back of the lodge and just perfect for having a dog as we didn’t need to traipse through the B&B when we needed to let the dog out. The location is perfect for the town centre and has free parking. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again
Staff were lovely very helpfull, great location, food was excellent, buffet breakfast which was great and the evening meals were great too... especially the "Gowan Curry" will definitely go back but book one of the deluxe rooms as we had a family room (only one left) with a double bed and bunk beds which was great if you had kid's. bed was comfortable but small.dog friendly hotel which is good. Staff were lovely to our dog.would highly recommended this hotel
Very nice modern property in the heart of Ambleside. Dedicated parking right outside the door. We came in the winter but I imagine the parking space is worth its weight in gold in the summer. Comfortable and warm. Dog friendly with a great park for walking them 2 minutes away. Owners communicated quickly when we needed them. Full cooking facilities should you desire. Looks better than the photos.
Upon arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room exceeded our expectations and the views from our room were amazing. A kettle with tea, coffee and hot chocolate facilities were included and there was a fridge too. Breakfast was really tasty and we had a couple of options. Located in the center of Ambleside and just a few minutes walk out from the shops and all the restaurants.
Staff were wonderful. Room was beautiful and really spacious! Breakfast included option made it amazing value for money. The breakfast running 30 mins beyond check out time really helps in the morning! The use of the car park until the next guests arrive is such a brilliant touch that costs the hotel nothing but would really encourage me to book again!
Great central location in beautiful Ambleside with parking which is a real bonus. The rooms were spacious, nicely decorated and very clean, bathroom was immaculate! The staff were all friendly and very helpful, especially Emily who really went out of her way to help us out! Thank you! really good breakfast too!
Stayed in room 14. Very spacious and modern. bathroom the same with a large shower and large bath. Bed was huge and very comfortable. Hotel and room are cleaned to a high standard. Breakfast was fantastic.
Really enjoyable stay, very friendly staff, who were very polite and helpful. The big bonus for us was the hotel is dog friendly. We opted to have the evening meal which was very good.
Lovely Boutique Hotel, 5 minutes walk to Lake Windermere (Ambleside) and 10 minutes walk to Ambleside Town.
Dog friendly Hotel with a Dog Shower / Boot room
The location in the middle of the Lake District was perfect. It was within walking distance of Ambleside and had close access to great hikes and drives.
