Our first visit to Madeira and our 10 night stay in Funchal was excellent. It exceeded our high expectations. The West and East full-day bus tours of the island were excellent, as was the 3 hour trip on the Santa Maria de Colombo, a replica Christopher Columbus sailing ship. The other sights we thoroughly enjoyed included the Monte Palace via cable car, Botanical Garden, Cathedral and Bell Tower, the historic area of Funchal and slightly further away, Camara de Lobos.Guest review byStuart CUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The only one real "city" on Madeira, very lovely, green, excellent choice of places for breakfast and dinner. Prices are also better than everywhere on an island. The cable car and Monte park are exceptional. You would probably spend more time travelling around the island than in Funchal itself. Very beautiful ,attractive and a busy city, panoramically situated on the steep slopes above the ocean, full of natural ,historical and cultural tourist attaractions ,Great food, restaurants ,bars and cafes !Friendly local people ,nice bus, Uber and Bolt drivers.
