Jenny & Nick Your Hosts At Avalon Lodge B&B
A warm, welcoming, friendly, highly rated Bed and Breakfast in a rural setting, yet just one mile from the centre of the medieval market town of Devizes, Wiltshire. With four fresh, stylish rooms, furnished with everything you could need from a fully stocked fridge to free wi-fi and USB charging plugs and large gardens with countryside views. Recently refurbished, three of the rooms have sunny, south-facing balconies overlooking the garden and beautiful Wiltshire countryside and there is a large patio with tables and chairs in the expansive rear garden. Look out for the free-range ducks and hens, who will provide you with fresh eggs for breakfast, not to mention the two rescue donkeys, Hazel and Alan who will provide you with lots of entertainment (especially if you supply them with carrots or ginger nut biscuits)! Avalon Lodge is more than just a place to stay, we provide a home from home so after a long day you look forward to returning and relaxing in warm, comfortable surroundings. Most importantly, if you are coming away for a long or short break Avalon Lodge is in an ideal location, at the centre of the golden triangle, between three UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Our aim is to help you make the most of your stay and have an enjoyable time. Between us, we have been in the hospitality industry for over 24 years and enjoy the many friendships that have developed over that time. It is great to have so many guests return on a regular basis. We enjoy cycling, rambling and exploring the countryside & are life members of the National Trust so we can provide you with our insights on attractions and places to visit, not to mention the numerous places to find good quality food. We provide you with extensive information on all the local attractions from fabulous walks to historic National Trust properties, English Heritage sites to beautiful gardens, best places to grab discounted bargains, steam railways, award-winning museums, brewery tours and so much more. In addition to the leaflets and guide books available for you to use we have a large wall map with the many attractions marked making it so easy to plan days out and to make the most of your time in the area. We can't guarantee the weather but we can guarantee that you will never be short of places to visit or attractions to see - with over 100 places listed on our web site guests often return
Our location is like the hub to Wiltshire with all the attractions within easy reach. Within walking distance are the amazing Caen Hill Locks, one of the UK waterways most impressive flight of locks, impressive because 16 of the 29 locks fall in a straight line, close together with large side ponds and therefore earns its position as one of the Seven Wonders of the Waterways. A walk in the opposite direction brings you to Roundway Hill both an Iron Age fort and Oliver's Castle, site of the civil war battle in 1643 when the Royalists beat the Parliamentarians. A walk into the village of Rowde brings you first to the Rowdey Cow Farm Cafe, renowned locally for its delicious ice cream and then in the village two pubs that provide meals with the George and Dragon awarded 2 AA rosettes and an Egon Ronay star. The centre of the historic market town of Devizes can be walked as it is a mile away. In addition to the many blue plaque properties, it has its own castle, Wadworth's Brewery that has tours, the Wiltshire museum with the best Bronze Age archaeology collection in England and the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum. There are still many small independent shops and weekly markets.
