Staff were so attentive, me, my son and our dog Arnie came for a little break, we got a free upgrade and everything was catered towards being dog friendly. Arnie got a little welcome pack and there were dog towels a plenty. Dogs were allowed to dine with us which was really nice..such a good experience, we'll definitely be back

We were there for a wedding at the local church but highly satisfied with our choice. The owners are a fantastic couple who made us feel very welcome and told us lots of the local history.
If makes such a difference when you are made to feel welcome the minute you step through the door.

We loved the views.
We loved the views. We ate both there and at another secluded pub just down the road. Troutbeck is easy enough to get around but you will need a car to get into Ambleside. If we were in the area again we would stay in The Mortal Man.

Very clean bathrooms and toilets.
Very clean bathrooms and toilets. Amazing staff, so friendly and helpful. Amazing breakfast and dinner - loved their veggie lasagna. Wifi connection a bit worse in places but with such beautiful countryside all around it didn’t bother me.

This hotel is extremely outdated and in need of a complete refurbishment, it is dirty and smells of damp.
The staff were pleasant but all very young and there didn't seem to be anyone in charge. The food in the restaurant was over priced and poor quality. £28 for a rib eye steak with chips but the steak was chewy and gristly and the chips were undercooked and hard! The price didn't even include a sauce!
It was clear that they knew the room was smelling of damp as they had cheap Reed diffusers and air freshners around to try and cover the smell which made it worse!
The only thing good about this place is the stunning view from the bedroom window but even that doesn't warrant the £225 the one night stay cost me! All I can say is avoid at all cost until they've gutted the place and started from scratch!

Troutbeck isn’t in Windermere so the listing is confusing and cost us a bigger taxi fare than expected. However, the scenery is absolutely stunning and there are beautiful walks around the hostel and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful location.
Beautiful location. The scenery is something else & so close to Windermere, there is plenty to see and do. Great pubs & restuarants & if you love relaxing, walking, hiking or cycling, you have it all around you. Stunning, a must visit.
The location was excellent, the views across Windermere are awesome, and the Troutbeck valley is beautiful. Townend farm is a 10 min walk up the road and well worth a visit.
The food was good and great value with free kids' meals and a well stocked bar. There is also a well equipped self-catering kitchen.
We booked a 6 bed room with shared toilet and shower facilities. However, on arrival, we were given a larger room with ensuite, which was a nice addition.
From the moment we arrived, all staff were warm and friendly. They had even booked us a table for our evening dinner to ensure we didn’t miss out. Nothing was too much to ask. We stayed in the Pillar room, which was stunning. You can tell the whole pub and hotel has been put together with love and care. We felt cosy and comfortable. The evening meal (Sunday lunch) was delicious and so well priced.
We are SO excited to return!
Immaculate throughout, beautiful setting.
Jaqui was very helpful, breakfast excellent and room was a great size. Lovely extra touch having cake/biscuits left in our room each day. Fridge in room which was great.
Ideally located, two pubs that you can walk to along with a cafe very near to the property. Would definitely recommend.
The place was clean and tidy, the beds were comfortable, the staff was very kind and attentive. The rooms were private, which we really appreciated. The location is good, but you need a car to move around, although this might be obvious if your plan is to visit different places in the lake district
Well furnished rooms with a theme of the Lake District mountains. Very clean rooms.
Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent service. Delicious food and drinks. Dog friendly with a handy hose outside for paws as well as several tasty treats/gifts for dogs at the bar. Will definitely be returning
Love the character of the pub and hotel. Traditional Lakeland pub. Good music and atmosphere in the bar especially on the music nights. The best fish n chips in the lakes and lots of choice behind the bar. Nicely decorated with Halloween decs and fairy lights and cosy log burning fires.
Lovely hotel in a lovely setting, REALLY delicious food and very friendly & helpful staff. Cosy pub/bar area and nice walks nearby with lots of animals (cats, sheep etc). Super pet friendly and accommodating as well. Will definitely stay again on our journeys north and south!
The room and hotel was spotless. The room was spacious and well decorated with a lovely view, the ensuite bathroom was modern with a lovely shower. Breakfast and evening meals were great and the hotel is also dog friendly. We enjoyed our stay and would book again.
Lovely guest house tucked away in Troutbeck. Good location for Windermere but quiet and relaxing. The host was very welcoming and friendly. There were great views of the valley, breakfast was nice and homemade, rooms were clean and had lots of character.
We loved our comfortable bedroom with fine views over Troutbeck valley, the warm welcome, excellent breakfasts, and generous provision of tea/coffee facilities with home-baked cakes each day and fresh milk in our own fridge.
Jackie the hostess was very hospitable and accommodating. Comfortable and clean room with nice view. Excellent breakfast. Very peaceful location 10 minutes drive from Ambleside and Windermere
