Lovely building in a great location. We were just a few minutes from the theatre which is why we were there, and the abbey gardens are just over the road. Very convenient and a spacious room.

The Abbey Hotel & Apartments, hotel in Bury Saint Edmunds

The Abbey Hotel & Apartments is consisted of of a Tudor house built around 1530 and a medieval merchant’s house built around 1350.

After a bit of meandering (on foot) to find the place, I was pleasantly surprised. It is an old building (Tudor?) but the room was spacious, the bed comfortable, the cotton linens soft, there were even robe and slippers in the room. The breakfast was good, the lady who greeted me and served breakfast was friendly and welcoming. Overall it was a great one night stay.

Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful Town with plenty of lovely places to visit. It has a very unspoilt, almost old fashioned feel to it. There are plenty of great Independent shops and also larger more recognisable high street chains. The Abbey Gardens are beautiful especially in the Summer time. You are spoilt for choice with the selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs to eat in. The Apex is a fantastic venue to watch a show in or just wander in and have a coffee.

Bury St Edmunds is a wonderfully historic English town with a slower pace than Cambridge. It’s definitely a really nice change from busy London. I would stay in Bury St Edmunds over Cambridge. Just take the train to Cambridge for a day and then come back to the calm of Bury St. Edmunds to enjoy your precious time minus the tourists.

Bury St Edmund’s is a very English town full of heritage.

Bury St Edmund’s is a very English town full of heritage. The Abbey Gardens and ruins are beautiful and well maintained. The town is full of small gourmet restaurants and quaint cafes. Giggling Squid restaurant is amazing! There are plenty of shops for buying gifts and a regular market on Wednesdays. You do not need a car to get around this town.

Bury St Edmunds is a lovely place to visit and the Abbey Gardens are lovely to walk round. We were seeing relatives, The Bushal was in an ideal place near the town. We went by train so no car and The Bushal was good for that. A good place to visit, and historical.

Nice country hotel with slightly old-school charm a short, 10-minute drive away from Bury St Edmunds and offering decent value for money. The room was clean, the hotel itself as well. It was also quiet, the view to the garden was nice, parking space was plentiful and the countryside surroundings nice (although we didn't get to go for a walk).

Location is excellent. The hotel is lovely and the room was very nice but the furniture in the room was starting to look a little tired and could do with maybe replacing or freshening up with a coat of paint. Lovely bathroom but had an old 1980s orange looking pine wooden toilet seat that just looked so out of place.

The room was large, clean and well appointed. The breakfast was great. There was a car park as part of the hotel. The staff were friendly. There was a residents lounge. The hotel is close to town. 5 minutes to the cathedral and about 10 mins to the town centre. If only all hotels were like this.

The ambiance is great for a town centre pub offering accommodation bearing in mind the expected issues such as the lack of a private car park and the difficulties arising out of the joint use i.e. as a pub, a restaurant and a small hotel.

The location is excellent for Bury Saint Edmunds. The staff were lovely and I will go back again. I believe major refurbishment is a planned in the spring following a recent change in management that will enhance the property enormously.
