Sophisticated Victorian Spa Town
The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.
The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.
One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.
Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.

Harrogate itself is a beautiful town with plenty of history.
Harrogate itself is a beautiful town with plenty of history. The feature that most appealed to us its dog-friendly nature - almost every shop, cafe, and pub welcomed our dog, and some even offered comforts ranging from bowls of water and treats to a blanket to lie on! The people of Harrogate are all very friendly too, nods of greeting and warm "hellos" a constant feature as we wandered the streets. A late find for us, but a place we will look forward to visiting again, as soon as possible. I particularly recommend Crema Coffee for their breakfasts, the Yellow Chair Cafe and Love Brownies for their coffee and cake, and The Barologist and The Montpellier for doing what pubs do best!Guest review byKeithUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This is a town that has everything. A good compact shopping centre, a good transport system with buses , trains and cars. The beautiful Valley Gardens by the Montpellier Area that has some beautiful individual shops .Lots of eateries and a good variety of shops to enjoy. The famous Betty's for coffees and cakes. Beautiful town - lots of green spaces, lovely buildings and so many flowers! Wetherspoons in the Winter Gardens was a lovely building and a good stop off point. A beautiful town with many interesting buildings, lots of places to eat and drink. But if you want to visit the famous "Betty's tea rooms" be prepared to queue. Helps to be fit as you are either going up or down, very little on the flat. Another thing that impressed me was the public transport.
