I think Cortona lacks out door eating and calling cafes ....mind you I did visit in January but other cities have outdoor heaters so that visitors or even locals can enjoy sitting out on clear sunny but cold days. Not much option if any if you are wanting to eat between 3 and 8pm ... but finding most places in Italy in the small historical towns are the same. So make sure you either have a late breakfast or stop in time to get some lunch in! :)))

It is a very beautiful medieval city close at the border of Tuscany and Umbria. It is definitely not an easy walk city as there are not so many flat streets. But it is worth it!
From Piazza Garibaldi, you could have a very nice view to Tuscany.
You find few parking lots around the city but from there you need to walk few stairs to actually get in to the city.
The italian ice cream, of course, is unbeatable. I can also recommend Cortona Bistrot. I think I have eaten there one of the best tiramisu.
The city is worth for couple of days' visit but the surroundings are also very nice (e.g. Lake Trasimeno).

The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona.
The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona. Cortona is very small, I came in once during a three day stay. Considering that it was 50 euro to drive in to town I would have only came back in for another dinner if I was with a group. Be ready to walk uphill! I walked all the way to the top and then made my way down to eat. Sadly I can’t remember the name of the restaurant I went to but it was tiny with a family feel and the food was incredible

Beautiful, romantic, old place!
Beautiful, romantic, old place! An ideal experience - away from the crowds and chaos of top destinations like Florence, but at the same time providing every element of romantic and beautiful Tuscany and ancient Italy in general!
Gorgeous Tuscan view out of the bedrooms, living room and terrace.
Big kitchen, well equipped.
2 bathrooms, one with shower one bath tub. Washer in bathroom which worked well. Drying rack for clothes.
It is a bit of a climb to get to it, but your in Cortona. Almost anywhere you go there is a climb. The climb is well worth it. The apartment is flat but there are stairs leading up to it from the street.
Paolo went the extra mile with his service.
Would rent again in a minute.
Villa Aurelia is a beautiful property in a beautiful setting, away from the crowds and impossible parking of Cortona, but close enough for an easy visit. My room, in a small building separate from the main hotel, was lovely, the swimming pools were clean and beautiful and the restaurant served very good food. The chef even packed me an excellent picnic lunch on a day that I was going out to explore the Tuscan countryside in my rental car.
Cortona is a beautiful town - well worth exploring right up to the top. We loved Dolce Maria - it's full of character, lovely big room with high ceiling, and as others have said, the best breakfasts. It was a special place to stay. Plus easy access from the carpark (which is beneath the old city walls), and easy to explore from. We felt very welcome. Next time I think we would save up and try to book the room with the terrace and view.
5 stars isn't enough for this hotel. It is simply exceptional. I spent my 30th birthday here and they made sure it was even more special than just being in the incredible accommodation. The attention to detail was second to none, every single staff member gave the best service and the property is to die for. This is by far the best accommodation I've ever stayed in for every single reason. I would come back in a heartbeat.
Jardoen who runs Casa Dresosti is an amazing host. Although it's busy in Florence and Rome, small towns and villages like Cortona during January and February are slow because of it being off-season. Jardoen greets you when you arrive and gives you a hardy welcome. Breakfast in bed is customary but my partner and I choose to sit with him in the morning. If I am ever back in Cortona again, I definitely would stay here.
The location was perfect with easy access to the historical town square. The hosts were courteous and responsive. The view of the valley below was spectacular from the apartment.
Cortona is a very welcoming community and the local residents made us feel at home.
Cortona is on a steep hill, so the location near the bus stops to the train station was helpful for exploring other sites in Tuscany.
Thank you Francesca. Your property was just amazing and we had the most delightful time. Excellent location to travel to Florence and Siena. Cortona the local town was beautiful and so nice to pop into for a drink, much or dinner. The property is immaculate and so clean. Probably the best villa we have stayed at in the world. Thank you again. We would certainly love to return one day.
The property was beautiful and every detail was so thoughtful. The restaurant and common areas were so lovely. Beautiful views and fruit trees everywhere! We booked this hotel because my mom wanted to take a cooking class. It was the most amazing day and class with Silvia. What an absolute treat! We loved Cortona and this amazing hotel.
Central location, two-minute walk from Cortona main square. Extremely helpful lady in charge (Google Translate necessary for English, but she's adorable). First ever perfect, stable WiFi in Italy :) Good heating, suitable for my November trip, this was not always the case at other locations.
A wonderful space in a perfect location. Spacious room with a comfortable bed and great pillows, best shower we’ve experienced in Italy. Looking over Piazza Luca Signorelli. A couple of lovely cafe’s offered for complimentary morning cappuccino and pastry. Would not hesitate to return.
Beautiful property near Cortona! The most wonderful and warm hosts, Alessandra and her son Gianmarco, made us feel some welcome. They had the best tips for places to visit and restaurants to go to. Our apartment was lovely and had everything we needed. We had a wonderful stay!
Ideally located to centre of Cortona, shops, restaurants and bus stop. Beautiful decor in apartment, comfortable bed and thankfully 2 very efficient fans. The staff at Together in Tuscany were very helpful and spent time to show everything in apartment, on arrival.
Jeroen was an amazing host and went out of his way to ensure we our stay in Cortona was a memorable experience. His knowledge of the town and Tuscany enriched our stay there. Special mention to his house dogs Judy and Lucy
Great location for access to the main Cortona pedestrian thoroughfares and parking is quite convenient based on the location - compared to other medevil cities built on a hill.
stunning property with a cozy welcoming feel. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Breakfast magnificent and the best coffee I’ve had in Italy so far!
This place was very tranquil and suited our needs of visiting other towns like Siena, Perugia and Cortona. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful.
