That was my first stay at Madeira - and it was the perfect beginning of the vacation! We’ve been upgraded from a seaview room to something - i don’t know - similar to penthouse seaview, featuring huge window and terrace with ocean and pool view. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, room is clean, new and comfortable.

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal, charming Funchal is the capital of Madeira Island. It's an important base for tourists from all over the world that come to the Madeira hotels, B&B’s and resorts to enjoy their cliffs and beaches, as well as the island's slopes and colorful towns.
Founded in 1424, its location allowed it to quickly become an important trading harbor, attracting many prominent families. Its mild weather was the beginning of its touristic development in the 18th century, with a therapeutic and health profile.
With the establishment of the port first, and Madeira International/Funchal Airport later, the city grew to become a major destination. Nowadays, the city concentrates most of the hotels, luxury resorts and casinos on Madeira. Don’t miss a long walk around Sé historical district, and enjoy the Santa Clara Convent and the Sé Cathedral. The Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro Park and the Mercado dos Lavradores are also a must.

Funchal is beautiful. It is extremely clean and full of fruit trees and flowers . The people are incredibly welcoming and kind. The food was amazing. The prices were very reasonable. In some restaurants you could buy an appetizer, entree, drink and dessert for $20 euros. The landscapes were breathtaking .

We’ve visited not only Funchal but all over Madeira.
We’ve visited not only Funchal but all over Madeira. My favorites were the levadas, but I’ve loved to run in the morning uphill in Funchal :).
The city is beautiful but has its poor parts integrated everywhere, I liked that it’s not somewhere separated but it’s a mix of everything. The flora is astonishing and we’ve lived also the food there. Driving around can be a bit unusual at the beginning because of the steep hills and two way streets which barely can fit one car, but you get used to it :).

3-4 days is plenty.
3-4 days is plenty. There are surprisingly beautiful gardens & green spaces giving a break from all the noise & congestion. Beautiful flowers & trees blooming everywhere during the May Flower Festival. When multiple cruise ships are in port at once, it is packed. Driving & parking is a nightmare. Summer season must be a crowded mess. Some beautiful vistas, but few places to pull over & enjoy them. Very high fog shrouded mountains.
The tourist board proclaims that Madeira in general is the Hawaii of the Atlantic. Lots of Banana trees, some palms, some similar flowers, yes. The hiking is in the cold wet fog & the beaches can't compare.

A lovely place to visit for its scenery, cityscape, flora and food. Visits to the many gardens were so colourful, especially Monte via the cable car. Easy walking around the city with lots of shops and restaurants. The Flower Festival was colourful with parades, folk art and music, classic car parade and lots more to see. Several interesting art galleries and museums to visit as well.

The island offers tremendous variety that takes time to discover.
2 weeks would go by very quickly here. Renting a car almost essential as it allows you to visit sites away from. the organised bus trips, which would be good if you don't fancy driving and the inevitable route finding issues.
This is definitely a high end and more luxurious apartment. It is spacious and very comfortable for a family of four. you have your own parking space inside the garage, an elevator and terrific balcony with sea view. it’s simply an amazing way to spend your time on the island of Madeira. Its central location in Funchal is quite advantageous and a wonderful place to explore from. The host, Julia is very sweet, welcoming and friendly, and was always available when we had questions.
Hotel was excellent for the price we paid, offering everything we needed for our stay. Wifi did not always worked well on our room, but I was not too bothered about this. Staff were amazing, accommodating and always happy to help. Breakfast was great with a lot of options. Location was excellent, within walking distance to the old town and close to a supermarket as well (which always comes handy with children). Would definitely come back to this hotel on my next trip to Madeira.
The apartment had everything that I needed for my stay, clean and well appointed. The restaurant downstairs, owned by the same people served excellent food and offered a discount for those renting the apartment. The host Maikel was excellent, attentive and generous, allowing me to stay for a final night free of charge when it became apparent that I had made a mistake with my departure date.
If I return to Madeira, I will definitely consider these apartments again. 10 out of 10
The .location was very good just up the hill 15 minutes from the main bus station 2 minutes walk from the main road that runs through Funchal town centre
The rooms were spacious and very clean
The kitchen was well equipped and washing machine useful
Useful to have a balcony in one of the bedrooms and living room
Host maintained contact due to frequent flight issues in Madeira
The host was fairly flexible with check out times and baggage which was nice
I really loved the place, from the amazing and really helpful staff to delicious breakfast and amazing location in the city center. Also I love the details, so names of the rooms based on Levadas around Madeira was very cute detail. Plus when we had the early morning hiking trip, they were so nice to prepare snack for us for the trip. If you are planning a stay in Funchal, I HIGHLY recommend to stay in Zarco! Thank you again for great stay :)
Location was perfect near to the bus stop to center (bus no 1,2 and 4) Also we could walk till the center of Funchal(2km).
Hotel was very good and New years eve was fabulous. The new years gala dinner was also very good. We saw the fireworks from the roof top of the hotel. SPAR supermarket was near. Also property is near to Lido outdoor pool. Many shops, car rentals, restaurants are nearby. We enjoyed our 5 days in Madeira.
It is at a great location, walkable distance from the city centre but also not too busy. We like the sea view of the room very much. The room is clean and big. The breakfast is amazing with great variety of choices! Facilities are great too. Hotel staff is very friendly and they gave my husband a flower for his birthday. If we will come back to Madeira, we would like to stay here again if the standard can be maintained.
Everything was superb.
We stayed 9 nights and Dalia and Maria made our stay perfect.
The apartment is modern and functional, with balcony viewing the sea, the area is full of amenities and buzzing in the evening.
Just a pleasant 30 min walk from the centre of Funchal made for us the most strategic place to stay in Madeira.
Would definitely consider to stay there again next time
Lovely clean hotel, we had a beautiful view from our room. All staff are very friendly, especially Liliana the Restaurant Manager. Everything is very clean, the pool is great and it's located in Madeira's prime location, easy access to Funchal Centre. There is a Shopping Centre with a supermarket just 2 mins walk away and great restaurants nearby. Will definitely return.
Everything at this hotel was exceptional. Traditional hotel with lovely knowledgeable staff. Beautiful authentic Madeiran buildings. Breakfast was in a lovely airy, flower filled room with every possible food you could wish for, even chocolate or orange cake for breakfast with traditional 'full cooked breakfast' too. Much closer than most hotels to central Funchal.
First of all José was an amazing person and really nice and friendly and My family and I were really really happy with the hospitality that they brought to us to stay on this beautiful island of Madeira we would definitely stay here again one day in the Future! The house was big and Exceeded our expectations. Thank you once again José
Sparkling clean, small boutique hotel in a quiet area. It is not a 5*, but all hotels in Madeira have inflated rankings, so we kind of expected it. The fact that it’s not in the old town is an advantage, because it is very quiet at night. Buses run regularly to the old town. Good selection for breakfast. We would happily stay again.
I stayed in a few locations during my trip to Madeira and this is the spot I’ll dream of for years to come. the infinity pool above the ocean and direct access to swim out to sea was just unbelievable.
loved being able to do yoga on my balcony overlooking the sea
hotel was very clean and spacious.
Lovely place, located in a very good area of Funchal, near the old town center and the ocean.
Comfy beds, very clean and we also got our towels and bed sheets changed every 2 days.
I loved it and recommend it to anyone looking for a good and not pricey accommodation in Madeira paradise.
The hotel and locations are great! Clean, staff wonderful, food good. We had two rooms with double balcony, amazing views of the ocean, moon...very easy to get around too, which is not always the case in Madeira as everything is on hill or cliff.
Loved the view from our room, the bottle of Madeira wine and candy, and the general ambience of the hotel! Staff were very helpful regarding recommendations for nearby restaurants and activities.
