Great St Helen Hotel offers accommodation in London. Every room at this hotel is air conditioned and features a flat-screen TV. Good sized room with all facilities I required, very clean and tidy.
Exhausting but a must do! Cover the Jewel house first before the queues build up as it it will turn out to be a brief visit. Be prepared for lots of steps and stairs especially if you decide to cover the exhibitions on the walls. Good food available, but pricey. Take a pic-nic instead.
expensive to visit I think it was £30 each to enter but you get a guided tour around the tower and its lands see the jewels of the land, see the ravens that live there see where people were executed traitors gate the only way out that gate was in a wooden overcoat 10/10 place to visit
If you have mobility issues - read the advice and BEWARE!! Lots and lots of stairs, and most routes are one-way - no turning back if it gets too difficult. The White Tower can be especially grueling - spiral staircases with a walking stick are not easy! I’m proof that it can be done, but I’m not sure my husband has survived my cursing…
Fabulous place to visit. The architecture is beautiful and very clean. Crown jewels are easy to see, they have a moving floor and all on one level. However, there are lots of steep stone steps to most of the other places (towers) so bear this in mind if your party has anyone less able bodied or elderly. Go in the cafe for some delicious cake!
I easily could've spent more time here than the four hours I visited. I still hadn't seen quite everything! I enjoyed having lunch at the Armoury or Armourer's (or something like that). The selection of foods was excellent and prices were reasonable despite their having a captured market.
Get there early! There’s a small opening ceremony with the guards and Beefeaters when they open the doors to the Tower for the day. Head for the Crown Jewels first before the crowds, and definitely do the Yeoman’s Tour! A five minute walk nearby is St Dunstan in the East Church ruins-worth a visit. Also nearby is Sky Garden Observation Deck—free but tickets need to be reserved first online. Tip: start your day by having breakfast at Duck & Waffle nearby—watching the sun come up 40 stories up over London whilst eating breakfast is amazing along with views of the Tower of London, etc. We were able to be out by 8am and walk to the Tower then were literally first in line for the Tower of London’s 9 am opening!
Tower Hamlets, London
For three nights in London, this was the perfect spot. Very close to two tube stations with different lines. Easy walking distance (about 15 minutes) to the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, up to the restaurants and pubs in Spitalfields. The Culpeper down the road was a great bar, and Flat Iron is a must try for steaks. The room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable.
Room was really clean and a great size there were 3 of us, price was great, Location-great not far from the tower bridge and tower of london and train station. Loved the little touches in the room it was kind of a studio lots of tea coffee and biscuits which was a really nice touch! microwave and fridge. Fab !
The location next to the Tower of London & Tower Bridge - easy access to the Tube
Location was fine , to get to tower of london
There is a mixture of cultures and civilizations with more than 2,000 years of history blended... from the ruins of the Rroman City Londinium, the impresive Tower of London and the modern buildings all together. The best of all are the museums, some are free to visit, like the British Museum with a perfect collection of objects of different times and civilizations.
The Tower of London is well kept - other than some short stretches of defensive wall almost all other ancient fortifications are obliterated.
A walk around Westminster, taking in the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben etc.... then walk over Westminster bridge and stroll up the South Bank to Tower Bridge - nice walk, views and plenty of nice "traditional" pubs to take breaks in.....!!
The Great old buildings like Westminster, Tower and Tower Bridge, and the new ones like Shakespeare's Globe which was only built recently but it is the perfekt replica of the original Globe. London is a great city with a great history and historical places.
Invest in the Oyster card in case the kids get tired from all the walking. Also download the kids explorer kit (avail on London Tourism site) to keep them excited to visit sites such as the Tower of London and forget how far of a walk it can be.
In this area of London, almost every step you take along the Thames river gives you a feeling for Charles Dickens characters, but you must go by foot get around the back streets and explore. Despite the new high rise buildings there are still many old houses and warehouses that evoke a sense of history. Within a 20/30 minute walk, you can get to Tower bridge, St Paul's Cathedral the modern Tait gallery, the London eye and the houses of Parliament. You won't get bored.
