Was a quirky cottage which had sympathetically modernised. I had never cooked on an Aga before so that was a whole we experience (good and fun)! Location was almost perfect - we had four lovely walks - Mam Tor and Kinder Scout were the highlights but a kcal walk in Buxton and Miller’s Dale were also good. Only downside was having to walk our dogs on leads as the delicate creatures they are they could not bring themselves to do what dogs do n the terraced garden!! Loved Billy Whiskeys and would come back again.

Need t walk-in dogs - see above

The location is excellent for walking. It is very dog friendly. The mature waitress, I didn't get her name, was brilliant, she couldn't do enough for you. She seemed to be the only one who knew customer service. Other visitors felt the same!

Was very disappointed with the meal option. We went with friends for one of their birthdays and had booked the evening meal option. Luckily they didn't as we had to choose from a separate menu with limited choice, 3 choices for each course. There was NOTHING on the menu that my partner or myself liked, but was told it was that or we would have to pay for the bar menu. Not wanting to cause too much of a scene ( as I had recommended the hotel as we had stayed in January and did not have a seperate menu) I politely asked to speak to a manager but was told they were busy. After standing my ground I was told I could choose from the bar menu. This really spoilt our 2 night stay. DO NOT CHOOSE THE EVENING MEAL OPTION if you like variety or certain meals.

Some of the services that come with the room were not up to standard for the price I paid for the deluxe room e.g. kettle full of lime scale and not emptied, bathroom products not refilled

The rooms had been refurbished and were large with good air conditioning

Reception messed up booking said when I checked in that I had paid. Then got call at 20.00 saying I owed then £33. Went to reception and paid. Then in the morning I was told I owed them £46 which I was told The night before I had paid. Curry okay in restaurant but the apple pie I ordered for desert had uncooked pastry which I sent back. I ordered a draft beer out of the 8 beers there only two available. The staff generally were not great and they seemed to be a mix of couldn’t be bothered and incompetent which is a shame as the hotel has potential

Felt uncomfortable for breakfast as didn't know how the system worked. New member of staff in training wasn't helpful. Working in hospitality myself. Always greeted guests as they entered a rm not ignore as was the case. Did complain hence why we knew she was training. Which is fair but we're taught manners don't cost. Good morning goes a long way. I understand not everyone wants to talk but you'll find that out if they don't answer. Plus I understand tables have to be cleared. But banging plates is off putting when your trying to enjoy the breakfast served. Having said this I would stay again

Breakfast was not within the same building, and we needed to cross over street to get to our restaurant for breakfast, where there was very very limited option for breakfast
