The Bothy is a charming cottage renovated to a high standard. It's location is perfect for all East Lothian has to offer such as beautiful walks, cycle paths, beaches, historical sites and easy access to Edinburgh by train in less than half an hour.)

great staff and wonderful food, liked the atmosphere in all rooms. music on Friday night even, perfect; the breakfast was up to expectations and better

We had room no 1, and on the outer wall of that room is the kitchen air ventilation of a size and noise which you normally associate to a Elon Musk rocket. Went off by 11h30; only then could we hear the music from the pub in our bed. :-) Air vent again on for breakfast 7h ... so beware of room 1. Other wise it would have been a 10/10 stay.

- Room was perfectly located for our needs. - met expectations/descriptions - Good sized space to hold the whole group. - Beds were comfy.
Negative section of review
- A little clarity was lost within the Whatsapp check-in process, all felt a bit last minute (which I understand but given the peculiar self check-in process it left me feeling a little unsure) - Furnishings were a little old/worn out. A shelf in my room was rather loose and I was worried it was going to fall off at any moment!

It was clean and reception staff was friendly. Comes with a communal kitchen and luggage storage for only £1.
Negative section of review
It was very unferwhelming for the price of over £40 a night for a windowless room when the holiday inn/premier inn both offer rooms for less than £60 in much better locations. The rooms are really quite dated and small, the TV they promise is tiny (not a problem for me but might be for others), everything is old, so the mattresses are uncomfortable, the towels are frayed, shower is hard to control, and the room has many signs of wear and tear - spraypaint marks on bedframe where they patched the wall, chipped furniture, nailpolish on the table, etc. The lightning in the room is also not nearly bright enough so it just has a weird vibe. Overall, I would not recommend it if you can afford other options.

The bed was poor, the mattress was just a topper, it was so uncomfortable. The room was so unbearably hot, overall we didn’t really sleep.
