We always love the ambience and beauty of Matfen Hall! The rooms are beautiful and clean and the spa is relaxing too! We love the food offerings and just always go home feeling rested and refreshed and wanting to return! The staff make this place. So attentive, I don’t think I’ve ever been told no!

The restaurant options are limited for daytime eating and evening eating. With cloisters closing at 8.30 and the only other dining a fine dining tasting menu it can be tricky to plan your day! But the food is always delicious! A variation in the Cloisters day and evening menu would be lovely as we have visited a few times now and it hasn’t ever changed its limited offerings.

This is an exceptional property. Very stylish and comfortable. I can’t recommend highly enough. The property owner Roy gave us an excellent tour of the property and surrounding area. I can’t wait to stay again.

The accommodation we stayed in looked tired and tatty, the Wifi, by the staffs admission was patchy! But it simply didn’t work in the room we were in and only when it felt like it in the main building. The TV was also hit and miss, working when it felt like it. The hot tap needed wouldn’t turn off unless it was forced, the toilet constantly filled unless I took off the lid and manually stopped the flow on the cistern valve, the paintwork in the bathroom on the pipes and woodwork behind the toilet was awful. The pergola on the front of the rooms was rotten and needed replacing. The only food available in the evening was Indian, luckily I love Indian food and it was well cooked, but it would have been nice to have had a choice. The staff were lovely, but this was simply a very overpriced stay at £114 a night for a basic stay.

Room looked fairly new but didnt appear to be finished. Two windows that didnt open so it was impossible to ventilate the room. Food was available but mostly overcooked and tasteless.
