On entering the Slate Hotel reception, it had a lovely cosy feel. All the staff were welcoming and pleasant. The room was spacious and comfortable and we had a good nights sleep in the comfy bed. We ate in the restaurant on the day we arrived. The food was well priced, plentiful and delicious. We booked here as a stopover before catching an early morning ferry the next day. We would definitely stay there again.

We didn't have chance to stay and enjoy breakfast, as we had to leave early - maybe next time. This is not a negative statement, we were just disappointed we had a ferry to catch early morning so left before breakfast started.

The property was very clean and tidy and had a lovely homely feel. It was modern and bright with good access and parking. There were nice touches with tea bags, coffee and sugar sachets plus soap in the bathroom. Nice clean towels and bedding.

At the height of summer it could get very warm as it has lots of floor to ceiling windows; but that isn’t a fault, it’s just the design and situation.

We were moved from place we were initially booked into. However we liked the area as the weather was good and we were able to sit outside the local bars in the evening. On the 9th floor but lift was usually arrived quite quickly.

Very central, easy to get to. Clean and friendly establishment. Room size was ideal for a solo traveller and use of luggage store on departure day which was free, although website says there is a cost. So that was good.

Very noisy. Both outside and the floorboards are very loud throughout. Kept waking up on both nights and didn't sleep well, although thr bed was comfy. Drumk people ringing the door ell and generally a loud environment. Not having own toilet and having to go along corridor was a little bit of a put off, but I knew this when I booked

Location is basically the only thing the hotel has that is great. I felt as my room was so difficult to find very strange layout and it felt like a fire trap. If there would be fire it would be very hard to get out.

The room was not clean. Under the bed was piles of dust, obviously had not been cleaned for a long time. The shower had buildup of dirt on it.

Location was perfect for my purposes, close to Liverpool St station and an easy walk to Aldgate for dinner.

Room 21...complained to reception and was moved room 24. Spoke to Liza, General manager about the cleaniness and she advised that there was a new cleaning team...! She said the rooms would need to be checked after cleaning..again. Holes in bathroom door, so much dust on table you can run your finger through it, mould all over shower walls, limescale covered shower head, stains on chair, stains on linen on coffee tray, excessive heat from towel rail that two open windows and a fan could not cool. Management turned off but it came on again at 6am next day, mirrors and tv completley smeared so you couldnt see. Moved to room 24. bathroom bin not emptied for 3 days, smeared tv and mirror, long cobwebs hanging from both beams. Hand towel not left after cleaning, after an hour noone had brought one up, no tea/coffee left the next day. Water marks from skylight to door frame where rain has come in. Interviewing prospective employees in guest lounge with guests in there!
