- The staff there were outstanding and really made me feel welcome. They were friendly and very approachable. - My room was a good size for a twin room, loads of space, and my bed was very comfortable. - Great location, short drive from Kirkby Stephen and beer garden outside very tranquil - I really enjoyed the breakfast service. The cooked breakfasts in particular were delicious and a decent portion size. I generally enjoyed the food during my stay, but I'd add that a few more salad'y options wouldn't go amiss - There was a terrific selection of local beers in the hotel bar

- I guess it can't be helped with old buildings but wifi reception was a bit patchy in my room - The shower seemed to be a choice of hot or boiling

The location was good, with car parking adjacent . The staff were very friendly. Food was really good, we had a meal in the evening, my husband said it was the best cottage pie he had tasted. Breakfast was good.

The room only had one chair for two people. This was particularly inconvenient when ordering room service.

Lovely helpful staff.Readily changed our room when we had an issue with the shower & toilet due to poor water pressure . Parking on site was a bonus.

More a pub with rooms rather than a hotel . Lovely historic building but rooms could benefit from refurbishment.Bathrooms & plumbing need attention.

Food was dreadful, I had to send my meal back, table was sticky even after it had been washed, the mattress had a huge dip in the centre and was uncomfortable.

Couldn’t check in until 4pm and then everybody checked in at this time with only one person on the desk - friends were able to get into their room when they arrived before 3 Room was tatty, dirty, net curtains filthy, window double glazing shot and not only could you not see through it the wind whistled through it. Bathroom tiny, couldn’t get in without breathing in. Very noisy room, felt like walls made for paper and because windows in the room needed replacing further noise from the street below. Would definitely not stay again at this hotel and furthermore will not be using Holiday Inns again, ever.
