Travel Gurus sharing their best tips

How does it work?

  • 1

    It starts with a booking

    It starts with a booking

The only way to leave a review is to first make a booking. That's how we know our reviews come from real guests who have stayed at the property.

  • 2

    Followed by a trip

    Followed by a trip

When guests stay at the property they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff are and more.

  • And finally, a review

    And finally, a review

After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.

Excellent Breakfast, choice of cooked or continental, freshly cooked on ordering. The location in the village was fine, fairly central and we had a dedicated parking space off road. We had dinner there twice and enjoyed it. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, all the staff were very helpful.

Rosemary Cottage. Frozen throughout despite twice asking host to increase the central heating timing. Heating on from approx 5.30am - 7am and similar time in evening. He said all the accommodation is controlled by him and if the time clock was altered others would be too hot. This, despite the fact that all rads had thermostatic valves. He said he prefers 12 degrees. On some days it was warmer outside. The place was vastly smaller than appears on the photos. All photos are very misleading, imo, especially of the outside area. The cottage was filthy. Cobwebs everywhere, all over pictures on walls and the beading/wooden strips fixed to the walls. Last guests' water still in kettle with huge amounts of scale in kettle. Bathroom heater didn't work. Host said it did when he last used it. Bathroom door handle falling off. Would not risk ever closing the door, which meant had to draw hall curtains every time in loo. What appeared to be fly poo on all drawer liners in bedroom, so never unpacked. Bed linen, looked unclean, greasy, very old, not ironed. One 10 tog quilt insufficient. Chests of drawers fit only for firewood. Sofa torn. Flooring ripped. Garden area was a tip. Full of hazards. Piles of old children's toys that did not look safe and needed to be dragged out of the undergrowth to be used. Dangerous, sharp objects piled in various places. Hand saw left on a table just outside a shed available to guests. Host's dog charged my dogs every time they met. It ran loose. Mine were on leads at all times. Very stressful having to look out for the dog. Hot tub derelict-looking. 1 dead horse-box. 2 dead caravans. Washing dragging across muddy field as line collapsed. Electric leads running across path. Extremely hazardous bridge crossing culvert into field. No rails. 3 planks half gone. Culvert should be kept clear for sewerage water to be released into. Overgrown and smelled when sewerage water was released into it. Website photos extremely misleading!

Location good. Staff really good, and knew what they were doing.

The hotel is very utilitarian and the lights in the rooms are very harsh and cold - it was sort of reminiscent of student accommodation. Bathroom suitable but strange layout.
